Friday Finish: The Matching Rail Fence Quilts

Well the two rail fence quilts are both finished.  HOORAY!!  We have two weddings in August so these are the intended gifts.  Typically I make something a little fancier but this time around I don’t have time and these are both just fine…nice in fact.

Quilts-1

I was inspired to whip these up after reading Crazy Mom’s Scrap Basket Quilt Along and from a box of fabric from one of my blog readers.  The box had lots of red, white and black fabric.  I added some of my own fabrics with those and in no time I had enough for a quilt.  It was one of those times when I just started cutting not knowing how many strips I had.  I was pleasantly surprised when I found I had enough for two quilts…perfect.  I had two weddings.

The only real difference between the two quilts is one has a stripped backing and the other a polka dot  backing.

Quilts-2

I actually have about 10 blocks left over so I am very tempted to cut a few more strips and and sew a few more blocks.  We have another wedding in September and I’d easily have that wedding covered too.

The pattern is so simple and easy.  I made the two quilt tops in a long weekend and didn’t even sew the entire time.

Sad to say, Ruby is still sleeping this morning so no picture of her on a quilt is going to make it into this blog post…

We’ll be hooking up with all these fun places ..…Confessions of a Fabric Addict, Link a Finish Friday, Freedom Fridays, and Crazy Mom Quilts.

  1. What a great pair of quilts! They do look nice perched onto the back of the chevy truck, too. Thanks so very much for taking the time to show the backings, they are sweet!

  2. I am always amazed how you can take scraps and turn them into such pretty quilts. The backings is just perfect for them….you are good with color! I want to be your neighbor….lol

  3. Absolutely beautiful quilts! Red white and black is my favorite color combination. You did a fantastic job!
