My June UFO is finished!! Â I was so happy when the gals at Country Threads pulled #6 as their UFO number for June. Â I’ve been wanting and wanting to finish this quilt. Â June here is busy and this UFO would be easy (or so I thought). Â All I had to do is machine quilt and bind it.
This is Labor Day Madness from Nickel Quilts by Pat Speth and Charlene Thode.  That book is what made me fall in love with Civil War Quilts.
IÂ am trying to guess and I think I started this quilt in 2006. Â The quilt is really fun because you actually sew two quilts at once. Â I finished the other quilt a few years ago and gave it away as a gift.
I sewed this one long before I saved the bonus triangles from making the flying geese. Â Now I am about to cry just thinking about that. Â Oh the projects I could have made with the bonus triangles.
I used free motion baptist fans for the quilting.  They are my go to quilting design for Civil War Quilts.  I used it on this quilt and this quilt.  If you want to see how to do them, check out this link.
I bought the book that this quilt was in about 8 years ago. Â I was a quilter but rarely quilted because I was also doing in home childcare and had five kids living at home. Â There was no where to keep the needed things and I was constantly having to put things away even my sewing machine..It just wasn’t fun. Â After seeing this book I decided I was going to fight my lack of space, take the plunge, and do a large quit.
I was looking through the book one night before bed and had in my mind already picked the star quilt to make when Hubby who never says anything said he liked the quilt on the front cover. Â Really??? Â Well maybe I could make that one instead. Â Back then money was tighter and I hemmed and hawed over which quilt to make. Â In the end, I “robbed” some money from somewhere else and cut out BOTH quilts at the same time. Â I finished his choice first. Â That is this quilt, Paducah Nine Patch.
His choice quilt is on our bed the majority of the time. Â I love it too.
The new quilt is one I am saving for me. Â Remember this antique bed I told you that Hubby bought on an auction? Â Well my Labor Day Madness quilt is going on this bed in the guest bedroom…if we ever get to it.
I just LOVE the quilt!! Â That bed and that quilt, I am hoping will be a winning combination.
If you are looking for the book, Nickel Quilts, you can find it here on Amazon.  Oh, if you’re wondering, mine is the queen sized version.
I can’t thank the gals at Forest Mills in Postville, Iowa for helping me find the matching binding. Â The hunting was so worth it.
I am off to finish doing the happy dance….my UFO #6 is finished!!!
Today, we are hooking up with……Confessions of a Fabric Addict, Link a Finish Friday, House of Hepworth’s,  Freedom Fridays and Crazy Mom Quilts.

Beautiful quilt. That bed you plan to put it on is beautiful too. Just a small word of advice here….when your hubby refinishes it, have him mount a piece of angle iron on the inside of those side pieces for the slats that support the foundation & mattress to set on. Don’t even ask why I recommend that! :) Let’s just say that old wood can be weaker than you think.
While I celebrate your completion of an older UFO, I bemoan the inspiration you present to those weaker-willed quilters among us. Until this morning, I was unaware of this quilt (in spite of having the book), and now I urgently want to make it! One quilter’s finish is another quilter’s start?
I love your quilt, Jo! It is so fabulous! But then I like your DH’s favorite too.
Congrats on a beautiful quilt! The one you made for your hubby is gorgeous to.
Beautiful quilt, congrats on finishing it. The hubbys choice it beautiful too. You do such lovely work. I will definitely be checking out that book.
I really think this is one of the most beautiful quilts I have ever seen. I love the flying geese border–it really adds to the beauty of the quilt. Good job!
That quilt is definitely drool worthy. Sigh! And I’m positive that your newly acquired bed and your quilt are a match made in heaven! Just gorgeous!
Jo, another beautiful quilt! Inspires me to finish the one I started from the same book…now if I could find it in the sewing room!
So fancy! Hurray for getting it done! I love it and it is going to be perfect on that bed!
It is just gorgeous, Jo. Congratulations.
I can tell you are really happy about this Labor Day Madness quilt as you SHOULD be! It is gorgeous!
Hope you get your guest bed set up soon:) What a handsome piece of furniture!
Beautiful quilt! I have that book too. And it is hard to decide which one you’re going to do. I have a number of them bookmarked with the little post-it notes. Hope your bed is done soon so we can see the two together. I think it’s going to be just lovely.
I absolutely love your finished quilt! So beautiful! I have flipped through that book many times at Micheal’s. Your antique bed is gorgeous and hope that both quilt and bed will one day be reunited.
