Emmett Update

I can’t remember if I told you or not, but mid-March or so, right about the time I had all my MRIs, my grandson Emmett ended up getting a scan as well. He had been having headaches, and they would throw up. We all became concerned when it happened a couple of times in one week. Kelli ended up taking him in. He had a scan, and we found out a few things…

Emmett did not have a brain tumor. That was the best news.
He had a full sinus, and that was likely the cause of his issues.
They also found what they believed was a heart murmur.
They also thought he was short of growth hormone.

Well, the murmur and the growth hormone issue bought him two separate tickets to Mayo Clinic. Last week it was time to check out the heart murmur.

Emmett is great at the doctor’s. He watched a lot of Doc Poole and relates everything that’s done to him to that.

Emmett made a day of it checking out the city. Emmett loved seeing the excavators working around Mayo. Kelli did not. Parking had changed and there was a lot of construction.

He was happy he saw a crane too.

He loved looking out and seeing the tall buildings and traffic.

Kelli was more interested in what this lady in the waiting room was stitching. HA!!

They got good news from the doctor.

Kids can apparently have “false murmurs”. That’s what they are calling Emmett’s. He doesn’t have a heart murmur. WHEW. We are so thankful.

So off they went shopping. Emmett was so excited to find some dinosaur sandals. He’s crazy about dinosaurs right now.

He also got a dinosaur toy for being so good.

Well, this visit was good news. Now we’re hoping his next appointment concerning growth hormone goes well.

It seems like there is always something in our family. We’re so thankful this turned out to be nothing.

  1. That’s good news about Emmet and the heart murmur and no tumor! Let’s hope the other issue with the growth hormone comes out as well. It’s great that these issues are spotted early and hopefully more easily dealt with. I’ll add him to my prayers. So glad Gannon seems to have outgrown his issues.

  2. Such good news! So glad it wasn’t a tumor or heart murmur. I enjoyed seeing the pictures near Mayo Clinic. I was trying to determine some of the different buildings, but wasn’t able to. Of course it’s been many years since I worked there.

  3. So glad that you got good news for Emmett! How wonderful that he is so good for the doctor, too! He definitely deserved the toy and the sandals! It’s always so stressful when there is a health scare for children!

  4. My granddaughter (a twin) had human growth hormone deficiency. She was a full head or more shorter than her sister when she was diagnosed. Daily (if I remember correctly) injections for a couple years and she ended up about an inch taller than her sister. It can affect other organs in the body so it is important to get it checked out. Hope all goes well!

I’m glad things worked out on the positive side for Emmett. Years ago I had massive headaches. My MRI was read and declared clear. A month later I was at my ENT and she looked at the MRI and said I had a massive sinus infection. She put me on antibiotics and it cleared up. So, I’m glad Emmett was looked at and answers were found.

Watching with interest as one of our grandkids is quite small for their age and may be tested once they get a bit older.

Emmett knows how to make the most out of a trip to the doc! You just have to admire his positivity. I wish someone would buy me a toy after I am good at the doctor’s office, though.
