Dirty Dozen UFO Update 2022

I thought it was time I look at my Dirty Dozen UFO list. My hope was to get at least 12 projects off this list by the time July rolls around. I haven’t been the best at getting much done this year. I figured if I looked at the list and reminded myself, maybe that would give me a little kick and I’d get going on it.

#1 S’mores Quilt–NO PROGRESS
This was gifted by a blog reader. I was really excited about it and hoped to have a quilt along. Alas, that hasn’t happened.

After some looking, I think this is the original pattern by Jo Morton.
I bought the ruler for this HERE on Amazon…and haven’t touched any of it. UGH. I really want to!!

#2 FINISHED!!
This was gifted by ….a blog reader, the same one that gifted the S’mores quilt.

This one I finished. I sold it on the blog and donated the money to our volunteer fire department.

#3  Black Stars-NO PROGRESS
This was also gifted by the same blog reader.  I want to make this into a Fall table runner for my dining room table.

Although this will be a smaller project, it still might be a lot as those blocks are tiny and I’ll need to make some more of them.

#4-Floribunda–NO PROGRESS
There really isn’t a start to this.  I would feel more comfortable calling it a kit than a start.

It is supposed to look like this.  (Picture from Bonnie’s blog)  The free pattern for this quilt is HERE.

Bonnie Hunter's Floribunda (With images) | Quilts, Purple quilts ...

Lately, I’ve only picked projects that can be done quickly.  For this one, I have to cut the whole thing out.  I have a feeling this one might not get finished but I want to put it on the list and try.

#5-  Red with Bow Ties–NO PROGRESS
This is another gifted project from the same blog reader.

You can read about it HERE.

#6-Oregon or Bust- NO PROGRESS
Last year I cut up the shirts needed for this but didn’t make any progress in getting it cut out.

This is a Bonnie Hunter quilt.  It’s from the book Scraps and Shirttails II.  I have long wanted to make this ever since I found Mary from Country Threads version.

I collected shirts for several years as Mary’s version was made with only blue and orange 100% cotton upcycled shirts and I wanted to make mine like hers.

I’ve had a goal to work on this in March…Alas, it didn’t happen. UGH!

#7-Sofie’s Quilt- FINISHED!!
This is a quilt of a friend of mine.  They found it in grandma’s cedar chest.  I was really nervous about this and finally I just did it!!

I’m so glad to have this finished!! You can read about it HERE.

#8-Sugar Bowl- NO PROGRESS
This is another that’s really more of a kit.
This is another FREE Pattern from Bonnie Hunter you can find HERE.

I have some strips cut but that’s about it.  This finished quilt (Picture from Bonnie’s blog) suppose to look like this….

HERE is a link to the instructions.

This one I’m not too excited about either but I want to keep it on the list.

#9-Virginia Bound: WORKING ON THIS

This one is a top…sort of.  I have the center section done.

Virginia-Bound-Center-1

This is becoming a quilt for my son-in-law Craig.

#10-Hawaiian Sunset- NO PROGRESS
I had so hoped I would finish this one…alas.
If you’re a long-time blog reader, you know I’ve wanted to do this for YEARS.

This one has had lots of progress.  The blocks are finished. I just need time.

#11  American Quilters Quilt Along- FINISHED

I love this one!! You can read more about it HERE.

#12  True Blue FINISHED
This is another gifted UFO from a blog reader.  It is the cover quilt from the book Spice of Life Quilts by Carrie Nelson.

I had always wanted to make this quilt.  Then the blog reader gifted me this started piece so I dove in and finished the quilt. You can read more about it HERE.

I have other UFOs… this is FINISHED!!

These are some Flying Geese a blog reader sent me and I sewed them together to make a simple table topper.  I need to completely finish it.  I want this done for fall.

This is LONG-LONG term UFO.  I unearthed it a couple of months ago.  I’ve made a half dozen more blocks here and there but never dove into it.  I’d really like to see more progress on this over the next year.

I have worked on this one quite a bit. I have well over half of the blog finished.

HAVEN’T TOUCHED:
These are some hourglass blocks that Kelli sent home with me.  Years ago as one of her first projects she sewed them together.  The problem, she was a new quilter, and the blocks were all different sizes.  She was going to throw them away.  I said NO!  I went through and trimmed them all down to the same size and then the project just sat.  I have a plan for them but haven’t executed that plan.  I need to figure out the fabric.  This is an old fabric line and I anticipate having trouble finding coordination fabric.

HAVEN’T TOUCHED:
I still have Frolic Leftovers.  I really think I have enough to make a minimum of two more quilts with it!  WOW…right?  I’ve already made four quilts with letovers.

HAVEN’T TOUCHED:
Speaking of Frolic leftovers…I have this quilt that needs longarming. I should quick to that. It would be quick.

I have a couple more UFOs courtesy of the two great packages that came in the mail.  I’ll post a couple of pictures here.  If I get time, I’d love to tackle a couple of these as well.

Red Hour Glass…HAVEN’T TOUCHED

Postage Stamp Quilt…FINISHED

These were all used in the quilts I made for two of my granddaughters.

House Quilt…HAVEN’T TOUCHED

Scrappy Hour Glass Quilt…FINISHED

I was super happy to finish this one. You can read more about it HERE.

Scrappiness Quilt…HAVEN’T TOUCHED

I wasn’t going to add the double wedding ring quilt but then decided to.  FINISHED!!

I was super happy to have this finished…it was only the binding but it was still a finish. YAHOO!!

I started out listing 24 projects.
By my count I finished nine projects and I have put work into two more. That’s not he best…not the worst. Several of the projects I did complete were quick ones…I wish I had a few bigger ones done. I think I’m going to look at the list and seriously think…what do I want to carry over and what do I really want to finish

I do want to note that I did finish a couple of UFOs that never made it to the list…I’m happy with that!!

I do like keeping a list and hope to continue to do that. Right now my focus is to finish Craig’s quilt.

    1. I couldn’t agree more, Marie! You’ll notice I’m not saying what progress has been made in my UFO/WIP list. Cuz? I’ve only ADDED to it! Yikes!

You are productive every minute as far as I can see Jo. Loved your review of donations, finished and otherwise. You provide motivation for your reading quilters. Thanks for the reference to to Bonnie’s Floribunda quilt. I printed it out perfectly. For some reason I printed it (more than once) before and it always printed out in a light lavender print which I could never read. Now I finally have it in black ink and I can read the instructions so Floribunda will be up for consideration, soon I’m sure. Thanks again for a view of all the pretties.

  2. What a lot of UFOs you have on your list. Not surprised you feel overwhelmed. I would out the two you now now deem Kits into that area of storage. Then decide are there any you honestly won’t/not thrilled about making. If not pass them on to someone who is ( you have a wide network) or sell them as a fundraiser for your postage fund. Then please finish the Schoolhouse quilt. It’s gorgeous! Happy processing.

  3. Judith A Gebhardt

WHEW…………………. just scrolling through the list I”m feeling overwhelmed!!! The last post (Marie L.) was spot on — “give yourself more credit.”

I’m thinking — maybe a ZOOM ‘meeting’ (get together) for a few hours to work on a UFO?
And, happy to report – making major progress on my ‘all creatures great and small’ piece!!! SO SO happy with it! THANKS JO! for everything.

  4. Cheryl in St. Paul

Jo, your WIPs are beautiful. I especially love the house quilt. Will you share where I can purchase the patter?

  5. Cheryl in St Paul

All of your WIP’s are beautiful. I especially love the house quilt.Would you share how I may purchase the pattern?

  6. Jo, thank you so much for sharing your life with us. I look forward to what is happening with you. I was very excited to see your house quilt. I have looked for that pattern for quite a while. Can you share where you got the pattern? And any info about it? Thanks again.

  7. I loved looking at them all even if they aren’t finished. I especially liked the Frolic Leftover one. Is there a pattern I can get for that one? When You inspired me to start to make an Hourglass one last year but I doing mine in anything goes scraps not in dark and light specifically.
Take and really enjoy reading your blogs. Cheers from Australia.

  8. Gosh, I’m overwhelmed just reading your post, Jo! With all that you have going on, I think you’re doing a great job of working through the UFOs.

  9. You are so busy with family and fostering pups that I’m amazed you can still fit quilting (and other needlework) in. They are beauties though
I still have Floribunda to complete – did it in green (leftover backing) and a purple herbs print. Love it. Just need one row to go.
Your wedding ring quilt is fabulous and I do have a soft spot for the hour glass one too. xx

  10. Sounds like you have the “how do you eat a whale” problem. Grab 1 of your projects and finish it one bite at a time and don’t even look at the others until it’s done. Wow, that sounded bossy but you get the idea.

  11. If you finish the house the same size as the star quilt sold for firehouse donation; i will buy it for another donation. I bought the stars, would love a house.
