I am on a roll, finishing up UFO quilting projects. I am also in the same mood for cross-stitch WIPS. I don’t want to sound morbid or like I’m giving up, but with my cancer news, I’m seeing life has a time stamp, whether we like it or not. I know my daughter Kelli, and she will take on all my projects and try to finish them. I don’t want that for her so…batter up! I’d better get busy.
In light of that, I want to finish some WIPS…but still want to start some new things. I thought I would revisit the WIP list I made back in January and see what I need to focus on.
This is a Teresa Kogut piece called Serenity. I started this in May of 2024. I started too many big projects at once, and this one had been left behind.

Here is where I was…

I am happy to say I have picked this one up a couple of times since making my list. I didn’t get much done, but progress is progress. I finished the flower and started the dividing line and flower.

I am stitching this on Sand Dunes from Seraphim, in 40 count. I am using the called for colors. I have a lot more to stitch on this.
My next project is Consider the Lilies from Heart String Samplery. This has been a WIP for a LONG time. I think I am going to get serious and start stitching on it, and then I don’t.

I have made respectable progress on this…I stitched on it for three weeks in a row. For me, that’s the most I’ve ever done since starting this!!

Another project I hadn’t touch for a while is Summer Trio from With Thy Needle and Thread. I had the smallest of starts…I just started stitching the word Summer. It hardly counts as a WIP, but I’m counted it.

Just last week I finished the stitching on the middle pillow.

I also made the decision to stop at just that one pillow. I have several other summer stitch projects I would rather be stitching so I’m quitting here. I will keep the pattern and if I change my mind, I can. For now it’s off the WIP list.
I have another piece that I hadn’t touched for a long time. It was actually a stitch-along piece. This is Stitcher’s Quaker from Primrose Cottage. This stalled out because of thread color issues. Some of the colors wouldn’t show up right on my linen.

I am stitched this on a scrap of Vellum Picture This Plus 40 count linen….and it’s done!!

I actually have this one fully finished. I just haven’t written the blog post yet.
I have 12 Days of Christmas Stocking from Annie Beez Folkart. I am stitching this on Charcoal in 28 count. I am using the called for colors. I have the first month done.

…and that’s as far as I got. I hate the linen. It’s going to take a bit for me to force myself to stitch on this. It’s 28 count and the holes are really big. It’s just not my jam. I think I’ll eventually get it together, but this might be lower on my list.
I also started the For the Birds Series. This is from Blackbird Designs. My linen is Doubloon by Picture This Plus in 40 count. I’m using the called for colors so far.

I had the tiniest of starts…hardly a start. I only stitched on this one evening since the original post.

This is the Garden Club, also from Blackbird Designs. Here is where I was with the project when wrote my original WIP list.

I am stitching this on Atomic Ranch’s Frieze in 40 count. I am mostly using the called for colors. I have three blocks done and am working on the Gardener now.

I am actively working on this one.
I had Oh Joyous Day, also by Blackbird Designs.

I’m happy to say this one is finished. You can read about it HERE.

Hannah Wallace from With Thy Needle and Thread was next on my WIP list. The stitching on this is finished, and I’m taking it to the framer the next time I’m in town.

I am stitching this on Heirloom from Seraphim with the called for colors.

I had planned to start another project and never did.
So that left me with 9 WIPS.
I finished- 4
I made progress- 4
Haven’t touched- 1
I started and finished a few small projects…and I found one more WIP. This is Faith Hope Peace Love. This is another that my start was so small that it’s hard to count it as a WIP. It really was more of a test of the colors on the linen, but I want to finish it, so I’m calling it a WIP.

I made a little progress on this one too.

So…that leaves me with SIX WIPS. I like that. I previously allowed myself 10 WIPS. I think I’m going to go with 6 WIPS, not including a small for the time being.
The good news is that I really still like all of the projects…But I need a plan to get these finished. I am actively working on Consider the Lilies right now…and the Garden Club Series. I think I will keep them on the front burner and also pick out a piece from Market or a small one to work on. I typically like having three projects going at once…but all of that is subject to change. HA!! Once I make a rule for myself, I always break it. So…I think I’ll say this much… no starting any big projects until at least one of these big projects is finished…a medium project might be okay though. HA!! For sure, a small project is okay.
I do want to check in again in a few months, and I’d like to have a little bit of progress on them all.

These are all beautiful pieces. Wishing you lots of stitching time.
Your logic about the number of WIPs to have at any given time is sound. Your projects are looking great!!
Your Consider the lilies is a bit further than mine. It is looking so good.
Why don’t you unpick the “1” on the little Christmas stocking. Call it an ornament, one and done. Don’t waste your thoughts on things you don’t love.
I love that “Don’t waste your thoughts” advice. Those are words to live by!
Thanks Dr. Kay. Very old. Took way too long to learn this.
You are certainly making progress on some of these WIPs. All of us have an “end date” and I think of my projects and know I need to finish them because every day I am one day closer to that end date. Just do what you like and enjoy the days ahead.
Love your projects and the patterns!
Is there a trick to stitching on linen? Is there a good you tube video to watch on getting started on stitching on linen?
I’m not sure if it’s my eyes or my mind is afraid to start on linen.
Good luck with everything, keeping you in my prayers!
Patty
Sounds like me with quilting. I have to restrain myself from starting any new quilts until the current one is quilted and bound.
It is fabulous that you like them all enough to WANT to finish them :-) I remember Mom’s wise words to me, when she had to face her cancer: I don’t have to like it but I do have to accept it. And we moved on to do anything she could still do and she didn’t fuss about what she couldn’t.
Hugs to you and the family as well.
You have a beautiful finish on some of your WIP, I look forward to seeing the rest as you continue to work on them. Hope you are able to do some this week while you are away for treatment.
