I got some stitching time in this week.
Originally, I thought I would jump in and get started on the next block for my Garden Club series from Blackbird Designs…but that didn’t happen.

I am stitching this on Atomic Ranch’s Frieze in 40 count. It has a bit of pink and green mottling. The colors get changed as needed. I always try to pick something close to the called for DMC if the original color no longer looks good.
I really want to get back to this in the upcoming week. I’d like to get another block finished.
I worked on Hannah Wallace. I had this piece on hold while I tried to figure out what I was going to do for thread for the over one. I prefer not to use fancy floss or DMC for over one work. The thread bunches up on the back, and it’s just not good. The problem, I’ve never found anything else to use. I ended up talking to Liz at the Stitchery Nook. She had nothing. I called the Colorado Cross Stitcher shop for some advice and didn’t get any help.

Then I happened to be at the thrift store with Kayla. They had this thread…

It was 25 cents so I bought it. I was supposed to have something close to the color of Oscar and this seemed like it might work.

I tried it and was pleased with the result. It’s slightly darker than Oscar, but I’m okay with that. There is where I am now.

I have the outside of the project all stitched so I checked for a frame in the basement frame shop. I think I’m going with this one…

So I was back in business. I could work on this project and finish the personalization, but I didn’t. I picked a different project.
I also worked on the freebie from La-D-Da. Here is where I was last week…

I am stitching this on the back side of a piece of 40-count Vintage Country Mocha.
Here is where I am now…I only stitched on this when Anders was falling asleep one day.

I told you a couple of weeks ago that I kitted up a few small pieces I’d like to stitch. Spring Awakens by With Thy Needle and Thread was one of them. I started that this week…

Here is where I am now…almost finished. The majority of my time went into this. Had I not had all the personal and medical distractions, I would have likely finished this.

I worked on it quite a bit. It’s slow stitching as there are so many color changes…but plans are to get this finished so it can go in my Spring display.
That’s where I am on stitching this week. I did look at more Needework Market releases. I’d really like to get this…

I would love to stitch this. There are nine charts in the booklet. They can be stitched together all in one big piece. It’s meant to be personalized in memory of people you loved. It is totally up my alley.
I saw these later releases too…
I love the berries.

Isn’t this pillow pretty too??

So much temptation!!!
Kelli and I are planning on going to the Stitchery Nook in Osage on the 13th for their Market Open House. I was telling Kelli that I planned to be really good and not spend much….but now I’m adding the Blackbird Designs chart. She laughed and said, “Well, put one of your charts in my tote. It will be your Mother’s Day present.” Sounds perfect to me!!
I think it will be this one!
I’d like to have at least one project finished this week… so I don’t feel bad buying some new charts.

Hi Jo,
I am new to stitching on linen. I bought a piece of 28 count linen.
I figured it would be easier than anything smaller. Should I be
stitching over one or over two stitches when I begin.
I bought a pattern called Frosty’s Tree Farm and it doesn’t say
how many stitches to work over.
Thank you.
I would suggest stitching over two linen threads with two strands of floss when working on 28 count.
Jo, I haven’t read your blog for awhile so did some catch up today. First my best wishes for good news with your doctor appointments later this month. Your stamina during your cancer journey is admirable. Second, the Feb 26 post about true patriotism and all the comment is so refreshing in this time turmoil especially suddenly we’re hovering on the brink of war with nuclear weapons.
The biggest take away is that everyone is patriotic regardless of political leanings. Love of country isn’t political it’s pride. It’s so disheartening that civil discourse has become nearly extinct. The article and following comments were so stirring, and presentative of what makes America, America.
I started following your blog and Bonnie Hunters during Covid. I can’t begin to tell anyone how those blogs were so important to me during that time. Connections from around the country as we all coped with the epidemic, made life feel a bit normal. Your voice has touched so many people – thank you for the years of your blogs.
I appreciate your thoughtful comments. I appreciate it so much.
Hi Jo
If you like to thrift and are ever near Cedar Rapids they have a place called Creative Exchange. Its all 2nd hand crafts. I love the place. Closed on mondays. You can get a feel for stuff if you look at their fb page. I love it. Nothing is marked. She will tell u total at counter.
So funny how our good intentions to work on a particular piece get shifted to another. Although I had intentions of working more on a vintage sunflower sampler that vintage crane sampler of mine will take over tomorrows agenda :). And what a terrific idea to use sewing thread if appropriate in a stitch! Love it!
Isn’t it amazing what you can find at a thrift store? So glad you were able to find thread that worked.
Love your stitching. Just how much wall space do you have left? :-D
I like the Spring Awakens with the rabbits. It will be a great addition to your spring book. You made much progress this week – considering!
Jo, I’m always impressed with how much you do get done! And how many projects you have in progress. What floss ( brand and color) are you using for the La-D-Da freebie? It looks olive colored. Thanks.
DMC 3011 is the green I’m using.
Thank you!
