Cross Stitch Update: March 20th, 2026

I didn’t get a lot done this week that you can see. I spent some time putting floss away and doing a little behind-the-scenes organizing.

Last week I told you I started this freebie. You can find the freebie HERE. I ended up finishing it that night. I even fully finished it already.

I’ll share that with you next week. Let’s just say it turned out 100% cute.

From there, I went on and worked more on Consider the Lilies from Heartstring Samplery. Here is where I was last week. I had stitched one large and two small motifs.

I don’t know what’s into me. Typically, I stitch on this one week…then wait a year before I stitch on it again…but nope. I pulled it out again. Here is where I am now.

Here’s a close-up picture. I stitched the strawberry above the key. I stitched the flower in front of the turkey, the turkey, and I started another flower.

I’m not setting the world on fire with the stitching. But I got in another week. I’m trying to go with it and not think about any commitment to it. Whatever I get done is less for me to do at some other point.

I’ve tried so hard to set some goals for myself in the past with this…stitch on it every Sunday or stitch a page a month. I refuse to do that, as every time I’ve tried, I’ve failed. ugh. So…if I stitch on it, I stitch on it. If I don’t, I don’t. For now, I’m very encouraged that I picked it up two weeks in a row.

I had a blog reader ask about how long something takes to stitch, then referenced how long I thought it might take to stitch a flower in the border of Consider the Lilies. I’m guessing an hour. I think I heard a flosstuber say it took her an hour to stitch one. I haven’t stitched a flower and timed myself. I asked my daughter Kelli, and she thought likely take 45 minutes. So to stitch one flower on this sampler, it would likely take 45-60 minutes. Imagine how long it would take to stitch the whole thing!! That’s why it will take forever for me to stitch this. Many nights, I only have about that amount of time to stitch.

I also stitched a little bit on my Garden Club Series piece from Blackbird Designs. I am using close to the called for colors with some changed out because of dye lot changes. Here is where I am.

I got a little stuck on this as I need to find a skirt color. What I have now blends with the outline a little too much. I tried one and wasn’t a fan. I need to find something else…so I just moved on and started the urn the flower is in.

In the organizing I was doing I ran across this pattern…

I bought this several years ago and then got nervous about finishing it…then promptly put it in a bag, and the bag slid under the end table. It was a bag that I had always assumed was empty. Well, it wasn’t empty. It was hiding my pattern.

I decided it’s now or never to get this one stitched. The chart is Mrs. Bunn E. Tail from With Thy Needle and Thread. I think it’s so cute and have really liked it ever since I first saw it. It’s a quick and easy stitch. Fingers crossed, I’ll finish the stitching over the weekend and then fully finish it right away too. I’ll have to see if I have a white pompom around here…or a cotton ball. Hmm. I hope so.

This is small so the stitching is going fast.

Kelli and I were able to get to the Stitchery Nook on Wednesday. I wrote a blog post about that and will publish that next week. All I’ll say now is that we had LOTS of fun. We were completely inspired. Kelli already started a project!! I am a little more disciplined and am making myself finish something first. HA!! I’ll finish this bunny and will likely start something after that…well, I’d like to get my Garden Club block stitched too. We’ll see. For now, I’m having fun paging through the charts and dreaming about where I’ll put in my house once they are stitched. HA!!

I don’t have plans for the weekend except to watch some NCAA Women’s Basketball…Yahoo!! That means LOTS of stitch time.

  1. Hi Jo,

When you cross stitch on linen do you stitch over one thread or two threads?

I want to try to stitch on linen as I have been cross stitching on aida.
    Let me know. Thanks Debbie

  2. Jo, I love your Spring cross stitch piece. I’m trying to get back into cross stitch and thought it would be a good piece to start with. I read in a previous post that you substituted your own colors. Could you share with us which colors you used? Thanks!

  3. Just a thought on Consider the Lilies … you could just stitch the words and everything above that. You’d get a quicker finish and it would still be lovely.

  4. The SPRING stitching is so cute and I’m sure the really finished one is even cuter. Mrs. Bunn E is going to be so cute too! Oh it is fun to see all these quick finishes you are doing.

  5. Yeppars…I’ve given up on making “rules” for myself when it comes to my quilting or stitching. I’ve begun to do what I feel like on any given day. Last week saw alot of quilting while this week was more cross stitching. It certainly alleviates any bad feelings about not following self imposed “rules”.
