Cross Stitch Update: March 13, 2026

My stitching was a little weird this week. I got some done, but it wasn’t my usual week. As you are reading this, my daughter Kelli and I are off at the Stitchery Nook shopping. They have their Needlework Market open house, and I’m so excited to be going. I can’t wait to see the new goodies.

When I left you last week, I told you I was going to try to finish a project, so I didn’t feel bad about buying any new things. I took that to the extreme and finished stitching on THREE projects!! I was so happy with myself.

First up is Spring Awakens by With Thy Needle and Thread. I didn’t have much to finish on this. Here is where I was…

I used the called-for threads and stitched it on a scrap of leftover linen. I ended up fully finishing this. You can see my blog post about that HERE.

I also worked on the freebie from La-D-Da. Here is where I was last week…

I am stitching this on the back side of a piece of Vintage Country Mocha in 40 count. I used the called for colors.

I ended up getting the stitching done on this one too.

I have a finishing idea for this. I just didn’t have time. Hopefully soon.

I also finished up Hannah Ann Wallace, 1850. This is from With Thy Needle and Thread.

If you remember, I am stitching this for my niece Jody, who passed away seven years ago from breast cancer. She was truly like a sister to me.

I am stitched it with the called for colors on Seraphim’s 40-count Heirloom linen.

All I had left to stitch was the personalization. I put off charting it and put it off even longer. I hate back work and not actual stitching. So, one night I said heck with it and just started stitching. I didn’t chart it and made the letters up as I went. I got lucky. I don’t thing I could have charted it any better.

I have a frame picked out for it already.

I am SO happy with this piece and can’t wait to take it to the frame shop. I need a piece of glass, so I’m just going to let them put it together.

Well, that left me in a pickle. I didn’t know that to stitch on. I didn’t have anything else I could pick and finish. Hmm. I ended up pulling my Garden Club series from Blackbird Designs.

I started the Gardener block.

I only stitched a little bit then, was going to pull the color for the fill in of the skirt. I couldn’t tell the inside color from the outline color. UGH. I need to pull a new inside color.

I am stitching this on Atomic Ranch’s Frieze in 40 count. It has a bit of pink and green mottling. The colors get changed as needed. I always try to pick something close to the called for DMC if the original color no longer looks good.

I wasn’t in the mood to go pull something, so I let that sit and pulled a different project.

There is a lot of hype around Heartstring Samplery’s new market release, All Things Wise and Wonderful. This is the third in a series of Bible-inspired GIGANTIC pieces she has designed. They are truly amazing.

I love all three. I have already purchased His Eye is on the Sparrow and Consider the Lilies. It makes no sense for me to purchase this one when I don’t have either of the other two done. However, I do have Consider the Lilies just barely started.

So being I was doing all that thinking, I though why not pull Consider the Lilies and stitch on it. Then I thought, no-I don’t want to commit to stitching it until it’s finished. Then I thought- DUMB. Just because I stitch on it one day doesn’t mean I have to commit to it and stay with it until it’s done, I could just stitch on it for a night…so I did.

Here is where Consider the Lilies from Heart String Samplery was when you last saw it. This has been a WIP for a LONG time.

So I stitched on it for one full night and one half. It doesn’t look like much on that BIG piece of linen.

I ended up finishing the big flower pot, stitched the key, and the motif above it.

Here’s a close-up of what is stitched so far. I do love this piece and should stitch on it more. Hmm.

As I was stitching I kept thinking…how about you make a commitment to stitch one page of the piece each month. How about you stitch one border flower every week? Then I thought STOP IT!! Every time you try to make a commitment to this piece, it NEVER happens. Just enjoy the stitching however and whenever it happens!!

Yesterday I was thinking that I didn’t have a small piece to stitch on while Anders falls asleep, so I pulled something and got the tiniest of starts on it. This is freebie from Glory Bee. I don’t think they are in business anymore. I printed this out about five years ago and am finally stitching it now.

It is a cute little Spring piece with tulips. I think it’s adorable. I went to pull the colors, and either I didn’t have them…or they were super bright. I ended up picking some toned-down DMC. You can see I started the little checkerboard at the bottom. I love it already.

You can find the freebie HERE.

I started this as a piece to stitch while Anders is falling asleep, but I’m starting to think I might just quickly stitch it. I’d love to finish it and enjoy it in my Spring dough bowl.

I have NO IDEA what I’ll be stitching on next week. I know I’d like to start a market release project, but which one…Hmm. Also…NE Iowa is setting up for some bad weather over the weekend and into Monday. It sounds like the perfect time to just settle in and stitch!!

  1. I truly love your pieces. You stitch beautifully.
I’ve been looking at all of the Nashville Market releases for this year. So many – someone said over 600? Where to start…where to start :-D
    Love and prayers

  2. Beautiful pieces finished. I hope you and Kelli had a great time and you were able to get the charts you wanted.

  3. Jo, could you do a blog post with tips on ironing your cross stitch work? Don’t know if it’s my iron or my technique, but yours always look so much better than mine! Thanks!

    1. HAHAAHAHA. No. I won’t do a post on how I iron my pieces. I would have the quilt police and cross stitch police all over me. I spray starch the pieces and use a clean iron and just iron it. I am all the way against any regulation or guideline. HA!!
