Cross Stitch Update: February 27th, 2026

I tried to get all the stitching time in that I could this week. I didn’t get my usual amount, though. It’s birthday week here at the Kramers. Gannon and Georgia both had birthdays…and Kayla was home with Jasper for a few days. Kelli stayed over and had a mom/daughter/grandkid day. It was fun. I’ll tell you more about that in upcoming blog posts.

I was on a roll with my Garden Club series from Blackbird Designs. Here is where I was when you last saw it.

My plan was to finish the third block and start on the next one in the column. I did finish the third block. Here it is…

I had pulled floss for my next Garden Club series block, but I decided not to start that one and stitch a different block instead. I am going to stitch the gardener lady.

I am stitching this on Atomic Ranch’s Frieze in 40 count. It has a bit of pink and green mottling. The colors get changed as needed. I always try to pick something close to the called for DMC if the original color no longer looks good.

I’m hoping to jump back into this in the upcoming week.

I also worked on the freebie from La-D-Da. Here is where I was last week…

I am stitching this on the back side of a piece of 40-count Vintage Country Mocha. I just had a little start.

You can find the free chart HERE.

Here is where I am now.

The more I look at this, the more I plan to rip out the outer border that is a line. Any line borders make projects so much harder to finish, as keeping the lines straight is hard.

Most of my time went into Hannah Wallace from With Thy Needle and Thread. Here is where I was last week…

If you remember, I am stitching this for my niece Jody, who passed away seven years ago from breast cancer. She was truly like a sister to me.

Last week I figured out that two of the motifs were over one. I had no desire to stitch them. I decided instead to modify the sample and personalize it even more.

Above is the picture I snapped midweek to show my daughter Kelli. I added a house as Jody loved home and all she ever wanted was to be the best mom and wife, and to operate the home smoothly. I added a cross as she was religious. I put in the larger called for heart, but changed the colors to be a combo of pink and blue to represent her and her husband, David. I added five smaller hearts in either pink or blue to represent her five kids, 2 girls, and 3 boys. I also added in a tiny pincushion, as Jody was very crafty.

I decided to stop there and put in the personalized name and years. Then I might add something else depending on spacing. I have an idea to add a crown but will wait to see if there is room.

I went on and finished the large alphabet.

Right now, I am in need of a thread that is thinner to do the over one stitching. This is on hold until I get one.

I also pulled my Serenity projects from Teresa Kogut. Here is where I was when you last saw it.

I only stitched on this one day while I was getting Anders to fall asleep at nap time.

I’m starting to put in the landmarks for the bottom section of this. I’m so excited, as it seems like the piece will be coming together and giving me more places to stitch from. I am not putting this piece into my full rotation yet; I’m only working on it here and there.

I’m still watching market releases…Two more came that interested me… This cute Statue of Liberty…

You can’t see from the picture but all around the design are the words from the statue…”Give me your tired…”

and the new release from Blackbird Designs.

Of course, I would love this!! It’s blocks…it’s Blackbird Designs. End of list. I love it!

That gives me a few more pieces to add to my consideration list. Off-da. I’m going to have trouble deciding. Market is just around the corner, so I’d better get to deciding.

I hope those of you who cross stitch had a great week of progress!!

  1. I love the Hannah Wallace that you’ve personalized in honor of Jody. It will be gorgeous!
I’ve been looking at everything that’s coming out of Nashville Market. So many new things but truly I only have a few on my list that I really like. I guess my tastes in designs are changing again!
    Love and prayers

  2. I absolutely love Garden Club. I may take up stitching again. I love the colors and the pattern. Thank you for sharing your stitching with us. It truly gives me inspiration. Bless you and your family!

  3. I love seeing your Garden Club stitching! I’ve looked at that pattern many times and now it’s pulling at me again. I will have to get the Statue of Liberty chart—it is the prettiest I’ve seen.

  4. Beautiful stitching on your projects, Jo. Maybe you answered this, but I was wondering where you got the border to go around the Garden Club. It is really coming along quickly. Love it

  5. I love the Hannah Wallace piece. I like hearing how you personalize your projects. I haven’t gotten brave enough to start doing that yet.

  6. Barb in upstate NY

    Question:
You specifically said you were using the backside of a fabric. What’s the purpose of that and what’s the difference from the frontside?

Thanks, Jo, I’ve been cross stitching for years, but I have learned so much from you.

    1. Vintage Country Mocha is a fabric that is sprayed with a dye. It is not put in a wash with dye. Thus, one side if mottled and the other isn’t. Hand dyed fabrics are similar on both sides.

  7. I also saw and love The Statue of Liberty chart. I have preordered it and can’t wait for it to come to me. Love the projects you are working on Jo.

  8. You’ve mentioned Jody often, the piece you’re making in honor and remembrance of her is beautiful! I’ve only recently started learning to embroider, you’ve inspired me. Though I know cross stitch is different, I’ve not ventured into it as of yet. Your works are so impressive! Just trying to back stitch January and February for a stitch-along tested me! It made me wonder how all your letters are just so perfect?! Lovely as always.

  9. I too like the Statue of Liberty! Also the one for your niece is really great too ! All the personal things are very sweet! Keep on going !!!!

  10. I purchased and downloaded the Liberty chart. It is beautiful but beware….the size of the chart is a bit smaller least for my old eyes lol…just needs to be enlarged a bit! But it’s beautiful with minimal colors! Of course, I have all the floss except for Lady Liberty !
