Cross Stitch Update

I had a family-filled weekend and did some garden work this week. That translated into very limited stitching time. One night I didn’t stitch at all and three nights I stitched for an hour or less. I don’t foresee a lot of stitching time this week either. Thus is the nature of the season.

I stitched on Home Sweet Home by Little House Needleworks. It’s our stitch-along piece. Here is where I was last week.

I finished this one up. Here it is all finished. I did some changes. The green was changed to Moss. The red was changed to Manor Red. Other than that, everything was called for. I feel bad for picking this…Neither Liz nor I realized the colors had changed over time. This is an older pattern and from now on, we’ll be more careful on what we pick in regards to color changes. Of course, it’s no one’s fault. It happens.

It’s a good thing I got it finished because Liz of the Stitchery Nook notified me and she is sending out the next stitch along to me. I’m hoping it’s in my mailbox today. You might remember that these are the two pieces we’re stitching. Well, actually you can choose one or the other or both.

You might remember that Liz and I were having a friendly competition to see if people preferred one project over the other. I was on the “Itch to Stitch” team and Liz was on the “Snip, Snip” team. HA!! As of when I talked to Liz on Tuesday, we’re at a tie. Can you believe it?

There is still time to order. If you are interested you can find the kits on their website. HERE is the link for ordering. We’ll start stitching on June 1st. These are small so they shouldn’t take too long to stitch.

Liz said that a few of you are going rogue and ordering the similar pattern Tomato Row. All of these are from the designer October House Fiber Arts.

I already have this pattern and I just might stitch this one after I am done with the other two. We’ll see.

But back to what I was stitching.

I picked up my Black Dog Sampler from The Scarlett House and put as much time as I could into it. I’m working really hard on finishing as many things as I can. I have a couple of things I want to stitch in the near future but I don’t want to start anything new until I finish a few more things.

I am stitching mine on a 40-count Dirty Tea Cup by Needle and Flax.  I am using the called-for colors AND two extra yellows. I was able to get a little stitching on it. Here is where I was last week…

Here is where I am this week.

I have it in my mind to try to finish this in the month of May. I think that’s doable. I just want fewer pieces sitting in my WIP pile.

I brought the border down. I added eight motifs on the right and two motifs on the left. I think I have eight motifs left. Some of them are bigger ones though. I’ll be so happy to have this finished and on my wall.

I really do enjoy this linen. If anyone has a source to get Needle and Flax linen in 40 count, please let me know. I’d love to have another piece. I also love to get some in different colors. It stitches up so nicely.

One night I picked up this piece…Birds of a Feather by Blackbird Designs. I am stitching this on Picture This Plus Doubloon…another linen I love that isn’t easy to find. I am stitching with the called for DMC. I didn’t spend the money and get silks. I only stitched on this one short night. I worked on the top border and then added the flower and letters.

I might have stitched on it a little more but there is a symbol on the chart that isn’t in the thread legend so I don’t know what color I am supposed to be stitching. UGH. The symbol is an outline of a triangle. I had an old original chart. Does anyone have a new one? Can you tell me what DMC color is needed for the triangle outline? I would like to keep working on this. After I’m done with Black Dog Sampler, this one might become my new focus piece.

I put VERY few stitches into this. I was waiting in the car on Monday night to meet up with my daughter Kelli and her family. I went to Georgia’s preschool graduation. I stitched for about 15 minutes and got a few more of the red triangles stitched.

This is Pet all the Dogs by Teresa Kogut. It’s a piece I am excited about stitching. Of course, I love the big red house!!

I did film a new Flosstube video. You can see it here by pressing the triangle play button or you can find it HERE on Youtube. You can save it and watch it later on your television or device. I have to admit, I’ve become a Youtube girl. I watch more Youtube than regular television!

If you watch you can see a sneak peak of my drum finish. I have a blog post about that coming up next week.

Watch in the next week or two. I’ll try to do a Stitch with Jo and show you how to get started on the new Stitch Along.

That’s all I have for you. I hope you got lots accomplished in the stitching department. For the amount of time I had to stitch, I’m actually happy with what I got done.

  1. Hey Jo, I just bought this chart and my outline of a triangle is DMC 422. How you have a great day.

  2. Still working on Home Sweet Home – definitely not ready for 40 count but am working up to it. I ordered both Snip and Itch but will work on Snip first – it’s more me. Your other projects blow me away – gorgeous! Enjoyed seeing them on Flosstube last night. Hoping for more stitch time this summer as teaching is wrapped up for the year. Hoping to stitch outside too if it ever warms up. The furnace is still chugging away as it is only 42 degrees right now with highs reaching the 50’s. Lake Michigan is keeping us extra cool this spring.

  3. I love your cross stitch posts. I look forward to Fridays!!! I have Pet all The Dogs but not sure what linen to use. What are you using? I also have Birds of a Feather and the color you are looking for is DMC 422. I am watching your Quilting Youtube and I just finished my 9 crumb blocks. Star points next!!!! Love your blog Jo.

    1. For Pet all the Dogs I am using Seraphim in 40count Boston. It’s a gray-iege color. THANKS for the color number!!

  4. Your crossstitch updates are so inspiring.
I have a question regarding your blog. At the end of your story, I was able to click on previous or next, now I can’t. Am I in the wrong place. I know you were having some problems, and don’t want to bother you, but just wanted to make sure that I am not missing anything.
I always look forward to your posts with my morning coffee.
Appreciate the time you take to do this.

    1. We are still testing things out and were wondering if those links were causing the troubles. We took them off for a bit but they should make a reappearance soon.

  5. I got my Itch to Stitch week before last and have started on it. I am enjoying stitching but having some eye issues seeing little holes on 14 count linen. It’s going to take me some time but that’s ok, it’s going to be cute. I think I may have this framed instead of a little pillow.

I am so glad you gave the color changes for the “Home Sweet Home”. I was trying to decide what was wrong and planned to do a color change. I am ready now, thanks to you! So much great information and hlep. Thank you again! Itch to Stitch next.

  6. Just a note to let you know Kelli’s book review came up as scrambled gibberish, accessed through the email link on an android tablet. I took the survey and hadn’t had this happen, but then there it was . So weird, and what a mystery.

  7. Thought you should know: I got Crossstich Update fine but WhatsKelli Reading comes like mumbo jumbo. Hope you can get it fixed.

I am going to stitch all 3 of the October House charts. Great choices for a SAL!

Thanks for all of your helps and Inspiration.

  9. I too worked on the lower right side of Black Dog Sampler this past week!
I kept thinking I will do just a little more then switch to another project, but no, I just kept stitching away each day, it’s a fun stitch.
