Cross Stitch Update

I had my usual time for cross stitch this week. I worked hard to stay focused on projects I wanted to see progress in.

Much of my time went into my Garden Club series piece. I am stitching this on Atomic Ranch’s Frieze in 40 count. It has a bit of pink and green mottling.

I ended up finishing the block. YAHOO!!

Of note:
The dye lot colors have changed since this chart was print. For example…You can see on the chart that the bird looks blue…light blue, but definitely blue. The chart called for Aged Pewter from Gentle Arts. That’s the one in the bag. Nope…that was gray. The DMC equivalent was 646. Nope…that wasn’t doing it for me either. I ended up going into my DMC stash and pulled DMC 927. I liked it MUCH better, and it has a hint of blue.

The charts are really just a guideline…the colors have changed so much.

With that one finished, it means I have two done and ten to go!!

Well…remember how I fell in love with Oh Joyous Day and just went rogue and finished it long before the assignments? Well…guess what? I’ve fallen in love with the Garden Series the same way. I finished that block Sunday night. Monday morning, I pulled threads and started the block when I was getting Anders to sleep for his nap. I started loving the look of this block. I ended up stitching quite a bit of it. Here is where I am now.

There is no guarantee that I will keep stitching, but for now, I went with my heart and jumped in on the next block.

This one also had a color change. The stem and many of the leaves were supposed to be a gold color. I ended up changing it to Loden. It’s a greeny-gold.

Here is how it looks as a full piece. Oh, I love it!

I’m hoping to finish this block tonight…will I do another or work on a different project? Hmm…I’m not sure. We’ll see how my mood strikes.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I kitted up a few things. This freebie from La-D-Da ended up getting started. Mine isn’t as dark as the picture looks. I’m using Oscar and making the letters green. I started this so I can grab it anytime. I like having a project that doesn’t take a lot of concentration.

I only stitched a little bit on this. I am stitching this on the back side of a piece of 40-count Vintage Country Mocha. I just had a little start.

You can find the free chart HERE.

I worked a little bit on Hannah Wallace. Here is where it was the last time we talked…

I only picked this up one day over naptime when I was getting Anders to sleep.

I filled in two of the flowers and started on the checkerboard band just above the two birds.

I’m slowing down on this as I know I have to figure out new motifs. I’m not giving up. I’ll get a spark and go with it again. It just might take me a bit…and Garden Club was just such a draw to me this week. I swear it was like a magnet pulling me! HA!!

I’ve been watching Nashville Needlework releases and dreaming of spending some money and buying a chart or two. I’ll tell you more about that next week.

  1. Love seeing your progress on the Garden Club! Also love the freebie you kitted and started! I’ve stitched it as a new baby piece on blush linen with an overdyed floss. Stitch on….

  2. Love what you’ve done on the Garden Club series. Sometimes you just have to choose colors that appeal to you. Where do you get the border pattern to connect the series together?

  3. You made good progress. I really like the Bowl of Cherries in the Garden series. I also liked the framed piece of all the different ones in the series (from the website you put in a reply. Beautiful work!

  4. I see that you use a Nurge hoop. I’m always concerned that it will crush the stitches when I move it to a new area. Have you experienced this? Thanks.
