Cross Stitch Update

With all the family home last weekend, a lot of stitching didn’t happen. In fact, I went three nights with no stitching at all. That is unheard of for me. One of those days I did stitch a little bit with my granddaughters Lilly and Lucy.

I worked on my Pet All the Dogs piece. Here is where I was last week.

I am stitching this on 40-count Boston linen from Serraphim with the called-for colors.

All of the stitching I did was fill-in stitching on the house. I was happy with how much I got done. I think I’m pretty close to having the house half finished!!

I’ve been committed to working on this a minimum of one night a week. I don’t want it to go back UFO status where I’m not even looking at it. Once a week isn’t a lot but it’s enough to keep me going.

I really love my job but it has really cut down on my stitching time.

Most of my time went into my piece Christmas Garden from Blackbird Designs. I am stitching this on Flannel Flower from Fox and Rabbit in 40 count. This is where I was last week.

Here is where I am this week. I know it doesn’t seem like a lot of progress but I stitched on it every night that I had a chance to stitch. That band across the bottom took a whole evening to stitch. Cross stitch is not a fast hobby.

Here is where I am now…

I stitched the rest of the right border one evening. I stitched much of the left border the next evening. The following night I stitched the rest of that border and moved down to start a couple of the motifs on the left. I just have them started so that the the next time I sit down to stitch I don’t have to count out and figure out the placement.

My plan is to stitch as much as I can on this all through December. I’ll see how far I am at that point. I might just finish it up in January or I might just work on it as my Christmas stitch on the 25th of each month until it’s finished.

Isn’t it a pretty piece?

OOPS. As I was writing this I noticed I forgot one of the red flowers on the left border. UGH. I’ll have to go back and fix that.

My Deck the Halls piece is stalled out. I didn’t touch it. UGH.

I am starting to kit some things up. I’m putting a thread order together for some new starts in the upcoming month or so. I have a birthday start…a Christmas start and a New Year start. WHEW…that’s going to add a lot of projects and all of them are bigger. I do plan to just start them and not initially putting a ton of time into them. I do want to get Christmas Garden as far along as I can.

I have family here again this weekend so I don’t know how much stitching or sewing I’ll get done. That’s okay. As always, family FIRST.

  1. It looks like to me you really did quite a bit of stitching. The Christmas Garden is really going to be beautiful, well they all are, but I really like the border on that one. It is fun to see Lucy and Lily interested in stitching.

  2. Family first, always….. You are passing on a cross stitch legacy to Lily and Lucy. Keep showing them how it’s done as one day they will be so proud to inherit your cross stitch stash! You get more done in an “unproductive” week than I get done in a productive week. I love seeing your stitches. I’ve started The Lord’s Prayer and am stitching on 40count linen. I’m too far invested to switch now but I didn’t realize how hard 40 count would be. My lighted Amazon glasses should be here today. Hope that helps!
