Cross Stitch Update

It was a SLOW week in the cross stitch department. For two of the nights zero stitching happened. I was with family and having a great time. Then because I was away, and then working, my evenings were spent doing some catch-up stuff…I don’t think there was a single night that I stitched for more than an hour. I made a little progress and I’m happy for that.

This is where I was at last week with my Tom Turkey Sampler. I am stitching this on 40-count Heartland from Pictures This Plus. I am using Classic Colorworks’ Used Brick for the floss.

I only worked on this for one evening for about 45 minutes. Here is where I am now. I am off on the stitching but I’m just going to ignore the mistakes. It’s only a seasonal piece and won’t be displayed that much and unless a person if directly comparing it to the chart, one wouldn’t know the difference.

Here is where I was last week on my piece Maker and Mender from With Thy Needle and Thread. I am stitching this with the called-for colors on 40-count Steinbeck from Needle and Flax.

I am TOTALLY in love with this and would love to just sit down and stitch on it until I was finished. I put most of my time into this piece. Here is where I am now.

I seriously could have stitched on this all week. It’s one of my favorite pieces I’ve stitched in a long time. I’m plan to dedicate it to my mom. I’ll explain more about that in another blog post.

I made slow progress the week before on Heartstring Samplery’s Consider the Lilies. I am stitching this on 40-count Vintage Country Mocha. I had originally thought I would try to finish a page a month of this chart but so far, it’s not happening. Last month all I got done was the three floral motifs towards the bottom and the star motif really wasn’t done. UGH. I had such big hopes.

I stitched on this two nights this week and made a bit of progress. I finished the blue star, stitched the hedgehog, and then stayed up late and stitched the horse. I’m so happy to have the horse done. I made a tiny start of the vase above the horse.

Then when I was taking the picture for this blog post, I looked at the vase on the pattern front and looked at my vase. UGH. I’m stitching it differently. The vase is supposed to be two colored and I’m only stitching it with one color. The two symbols look similar and I didn’t catch it. UGH. Now I have to decide if I care of not.

I was supposed to start on the Red Pear Stitch Along but that didn’t happen.

The good news is that they are waiting for me and I can start them this weekend.

I can’t remember if I told you or not but Barb a blog reader whom I met at the quilt retreat sent me these two charts. THANKS, Barb! She had finished the chart on the right and finished it much like the picture. She offered to share the chart with me and I was so excited. She sent me an extra chart too. I just love all things Blackbird Designs.

When I was at the thrift store last week, I found this box…it’s wooden and was $2. I measured and I think it might work for this project if I did my math right. YAHOO!!! I would love to drop everything and stitch this but I’m trying to be disciplined.

We’ll see how long that lasts. HA!! I do know that I’m going to go through my floss and see if I need any colors.

That’s all I have for stitching news this week.

Oh wait…I do think I’m going to go to a cross stitch day today in Waverly, Iowa at the public library. I’ve been wanting to go and haven’t because I’ve always had grandkids here or had too much other stuff to do. It’s free to attend. Anywhere from 4-8 people have been going. It’s come and go from 9-4pm. You can stitch the whole day or just come for a couple of hours. I think they started the group last Fall. I’ll have to report back to you all. It’s open to anyone who wants to come so if you’re around…come.

Now I have to figure out what project I want to stitch on…Hmm.

  1. Decisions decisions. The pieces you’re working in look great I would keep the base one color. Everything looks so pretty.

  2. I love Friday mornings and I love seeing your stitching! It all looks great, Jo! I started on the stitch along piece. I think I only want to do two, but thought your idea to save the ABC chart for last was a good one! Lol

  3. It was a great day today stitching with you Jo! Hope you can come more often! For anyone in the area that wants to join us you are more than welcome to come! Just a head’s up though – the library will be going through a big remodel and we will have to find some place else to gather during November through next spring. Stay tuned. We usually meet on Fridays a couple of times a month. You may email me if you’d like more information on dates, etc. janetorr2455@yahoo.com

  4. Was great meeting and stitching with you and the others today in Waverly. I just love your projects. Seems we have the same taste in quilting and cross stitch. Hope you will be able to join us more often.
