I finished the stitching on this a bit ago. I had thought I wanted to frame it…but no frames in my basement “frame shop” tripped my trigger. It sat for a bit until I decided that I would rather have it finished as a pillow than have it just sit around. The piece is called Stitching Quaker from Primrose Cottage.

I started out by trimming it down and putting interfacing on the stitched piece and the backing.

I made a split back with an opening, so I put the right sides together and sewed all the way around.

I trimmed the edges, clipped the corners, and then turned it right side out. I wasn’t happy. I thought there was too much border, so I retrimmed and resewed.
AH…Much better. I like it close with little border space when finishing Quakers.

I used poly-fil and crushed walnuts for stuffing. Then I stitched the back closed using a ladder stitch.

I had some cording that I bought at the thrift store. A lot of people glue the trim down. I don’t. I hand-stitch mine down. It takes a while but I don’t like the stiffness of glue. I feel like I have more control. I can always take the trim off if I don’t like it.

Here is the finish of the cording. The color is great with the darker red that is in the piece.

The color in this washed out a bit. For now, the piece is hanging out in my long wooden box. I have all of my other stitching-related pieces in this same wooden box.

It looks good with the other pieces. I am so glad I changed up the teal colors and used blues instead.
This was a stitch-along piece. I’m so glad I can check that off as a finish. I always feel guilty when I take a while to finish a stitch along piece. Have any of you finished yours??

I knew this little stitch piece looked familiar. My daughter just posted it finished as a pillow with red trim on her instagram account yesterday! Sew cute!
You did a beautiful job on your Quaker. Well Done!
Love and prayers
Hi there, unrelated to today’s post but had to cheer for you! On my instagram feed this morning, American Patchwork and Quilting magazine (@allpeoplequilt) has a post celebrating you and Kelli and the quilts you have designed for them!
Thanks for mentioning this! I just went to the website; lovely article, and a beautiful “parade” of Jo and Kelli’s quilts. I enjoyed their comments throughout, especially Kelli’s notes on making a scrappy star quilt.
Gorgeous piece!♥️ And I need to order that pattern now, altho I will be using a different floss then listed. I love how you finish things. I am stumbling around trying to figure out how to do finishing.
Beautiful finish! I like the pillows you make with your stitched pieces. When I first did cross stitching, everything was framed. I like your finishes.
Jo – I like the way you made tassels with the red trim!
After seeing this in one of your previous posts, I had to get it. Loved the colors! I ended up getting a few more of the Quaker ones. So cute! I’m hoping to start this one within the next month.
Beautiful! Hugs,
Jo, turned out very cute as all of your finishes do. I also liked your color change.
One question, what type and weight of interfacing do you use?
I don’t have a specific interfacing. I get stuff at the thrift store or Hobby Lobby or the quilt shop. I go by feel. If it’s pretty heavy, I use it.
Jo, at a retreat I was at one of the ladies had made a cross stitch piece into a pincushion she was using. I thought of you! I know you make decorative mini pillows for your dough bowl, but have you ever made a pincushion and used it? Jo B.
I would hate to use it as a real pincushion. It took so long to stitch!!
A lovely finish, Jo!
