Cross Stitch Finish: Mrs. Bunn E. Tail

I finished up my Mrs. Bunn E. Tail just before Easter. I’ll keep her out for a while and enjoy her. She is so cute!!

I finished the stitching on this a couple of weeks ago. I was a little nervous about finishing her because I hate cutting linen. I’m always nervous I will cut it wrong.

The pattern is from With Thy Needle and Thread. It’s an older pattern so if it’s hard to find, try Brenda’s online site, Country Stitches Online. I stitched this on a scrap of linen…I’m not sure the color.

With Easter approaching, I decided to get it done. So last week, that’s what I did.

I used linen on the front and the back. I put interfacing on the back side of each. Then I made a plastic template that I could see through of the bunny. There is an outline in the pattern. I positioned the template and traced it onto the back of the stitched side.

I sewed just inside of the line.

Then I trimmed around it and clipped the curvy part.

I was happy with how it looked after I turned it right side out so I started stuffing it. I put Poly-fil in about this far.

Then I used crushed walnuts to about this far…

I stuffed the remaining part with Poly-fil. Then I closed it with a ladder stitch.

Oh my goodness…so cute!!

I dug through my buttons and trims. I sewed on an eye and then tied a bow. I stitched the nose…but now what was I going to do for a tail?? Hmm. I didn’t have a pompom…or a cotton ball. I decided to use a piece of similar colored fabric. I cut a long strip. I cut fringe on both sides, leaving a path down the middle that wasn’t cut.

Then I did a gathering stitch and pulled it up tight.

It was a little too big, so I trimmed it down. Then I sewed the tail to the bunny. I just love it!!

I kind of wish he had a blue bow. This will do for now.

I am so glad I stitched this gal. She is SO CUTE!! I think the stitching only took two nights, so if you’re looking for a fast project for an Easter or Spring display, this one is it.

I wish she had another design that was similar, only the bunny would face the other way. Hmm. Maybe I could come up with something.

  1. I think your bunny is darling. Perhaps you can scan the pattern, and reverse it like you would if you were working with an iron on for a t-shirt? I know many designers don’t mind if you make working copies of the patterns if you them toss it when done. Maybe write and ask if you could do it? Good Luck

  2. La D Da has at least a couple of bunny patterns. But they both face the way this one does. This one you finished perfectly!

  3. What a clever way to position the template by making a transparent template! It turned out great, and who says bunnies can’t hang around for a while? Enjoy!

  4. Use the same pattern, but flip it to face thw other bunny….find a trekky to scan the original and flip it 180 degrees. Else, hand plot the ears on graph paper– might be a fun pjt for the grandkids?

  5. The bunny is adorable!! Leave it to you to come up with such a clever way to make a tail. It is perfect. Another great finish.

  6. Perhaps you could stitch the body part of the pattern but not the ear part, then reverse your template so the bunny is facing the opposite direction. Outline the ear area on your cloth or do a removable stitch around the ear part and then stitch your ear section and remove outline. This should give you a bunny facing the other way.
