Cross Stitch Finish: Hannah Wallace

When I last you left you with Hannah Wallace, I had finished the stitching…

I got my frame together and took it to the frame shop. About five days later, the owner messaged me and said it was done. WOW!!

I stitched it with the called for colors on Seraphim’s 40-count Heirloom linen. It’s a lovely linen. A kind blog reader sent the chart to me. It was a chart I had considered purchasing for a long time so gifting it to me was a perfect fit.

Last week, when Kalissa had errands to Decorah, she picked it up for me.

Oh, I had to peel off the plastic covering right away!!

I stitched this to honor my niece (and good friend) Jody. She is my sister’s oldest daughter. She died of breast cancer in 2019. She had three rounds of breast cancer. She was a real trooper and fought to the very end. She left behind a wonderful husband, five kids, and many family members and friends.

Oh my. I loved it. I wasn’t sure…I made some changes to it, and when I do that, I’m always a little hesitant.

This was supposed to have two over one motifs at the top above the personalization. I wasn’t a fan…I can stitch over one letter, but motifs I don’t like to do in over one.

This is the section I made changes to. Jody had trouble conceiving children, so that made them her pride and joy. She had triplets and then two more boys after that. She was an amazing mom. I wanted to add something significant about the kids, so I stitched five hearts representing them… Three blue hearts for her three boys and two pink hearts for her girls. The mixed heart is to represent her marriage to David.

The house is to represent her love of home and family. The pincushion represents her love of crafting, and the cross represents her strong religious beliefs.

I am so glad that the motifs were charted as over one because that prompted me to personalize it and make it more fitting for Jody…her real name was Jordona but we all called her Jody.

As of now, my plans are to continue stitching small samplers in memory of important people in my life. Then I want to hang them all together in one spot. As of now, I’d like to stitch one for each of my girls, my boys, my mom and dad, my sister, my Aunt Agnes, and my grandparents. I think some might be small…some this size, but not really any bigger for now anyway.

The frame was thrifted…I’m happy with it even though it has some dings.

Many thanks to the blog reader who sent this to me. It was a joy to stitch!!
