Cross Stitch Finish: Free-bee Alphabet w/ Hare

I have another Spring cross stitch finish!! The goodness is that it is a freebie, so you have access to the chart too. You can find the free chart HERE.

Here is a picture from when I was stitching on it.

I later picked out the outer border. It’s always harder to finish things with a single line border. Getting it straight is never easy. I used three colors for mine…one for the letters, one for the rabbit and one for the hearts. I saw Ginger stitch this on Instagram, and she did hers all in one color. I love that idea!!

I stitched it on the back side of a scrap piece of 40 count Vintage Country Mocha.

Anyway…here is my finish.

and here is how I finished it.

I thought about a pillow, but the stitching was pretty big, and I have quite a few pillows. I headed to my “basement frame shop” to see if there was anything there I could use. I came up with this board.

It stands like a picture frame. I think it was originally from Hobby Lobby, but I bought it at a thrift store for $2.

I gathered pieces I thought I might need…I stitched mine on 40 count linen. I ended up cutting my matte board at 5″. I also cut a piece of batting the same size.

I glued the batting to the matte board and then I laced it.

Here it is all done.

Then I prepared a board for behind it.

I don’t use batting with this. I hot-glued the fabric around the matte board.

I had some trim from Purple Paper Mountain on Etsy that looked good with it. I hot-glued the trim to the stitched piece. Then I hot-glued the stitched piece to the pink matte board…then hot-glued it all to the wood board.

I thought about adding a bow or something, but I think I like it just plain. Sometimes, too much just takes away from the stitching.

I’m so happy to have another finish!! I’m finally getting a nice amount of Spring projects. It’s always fun to stitch a freebie and add it to my collection. Again, you can find the free chart HERE.

  6. I love the way you finished the alphabet sampler and love the letter style too! I haven’t done cross stitch before and wonder if this would be too difficult for a beginner?
