Crafty Finish: Embroidered Pillow Finish

After Kalissa and I went to Maker’s Market, and I bought my new cabinet, I’ve been on a decorating kick. I saw so many cute-cute things there that I can make. I have a sewing machine…I have supplies. I can do this.

When I made my Spring Pillow, I dug through some of my embroidered linens. You can see a piece in the background of this picture. I pulled that and decided I’d make a pillow of that too.

I started just like I did when I was making the other pillow. I added a piece of fabric to the bottom of the stitched piece. Then I made a similar backing. I put interfacing on the back of both pieces.

After putting the right sides together, I sewed all the way around the piece.

I turned it right side out…now this was promising. It was already looking cute!

I stuffed it with a combo of crushed walnut shells and Poly-fil.

Then I used a ladder stitch to close up the back. Oh, I love these polka dots!!

I added some rick-rack along the bottom. Oh, this will be a simple, cute addition to my Spring decor.

I plopped it here long enough to grab a picture for the blog. I’m moving everything around all the time now. HA!! It’s my the bad influence of my new cabinet.

I’m hoping to make a few more things to add to the decor. Kelli said to me if you’re going to make things that cute, you might have to sell some things. HA!! That would be a full circle moment. I used to make things like this and sell them at craft shows. I bought stuffing in boxes so big that a roll of batting could fit into it.

For now…I’m just happy creating.

  1. That just gave me an idea for some doilies that I didn’t know what to with. Better cut them down and makes cute pillow than let them waste in a drawer. Thanks,Dotti in CT

That is adorable. I can’t wait to find more old embroideries. They are at estate sales all the time and nobody buys them. Love it.

  3. That’s a really cute finish! Your new piece of furniture is providing lots of motivation. It will be fun to see what you do throughout the year.

  4. Such cute piece and a mighty good inspiration for any of us who have some similar linens. I’m also thinking about hankies.

  5. Cute, cute, cute! I have a question that I’ve been meaning to ask you. How much walnut shells and how much fiberfill do you use when you stuff the pillows? I use mostly the crushed walnut shells, but I never seen to get them solid enough. Do I need to put more fiberfill in it? Thanks, Jo.

    1. Hi Karen. Typically polyfill goes in the corners. Then walnut shells…then more polyfil to close it and fill in.

  6. They are both as cute as can be! Hugs, p.s. did you post a picture of your cabinet previously? I don’t remember seeing one.

  7. I love those polka dots too…..especially in that lime green! Where did you get those precious bunnies? They are SO cute!!!!

  8. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again that you are one crafty lady. I know you are busy but if you ever want to sell your craft items, I’m sure the business would zoom. Your little pillows are so darn cute!
