Community Quilts from Ray

Before I get to today’s post, I thought I would remind you of the Villa Rosa blog hop.  Here is where we are hoping today.

Don’t forget to tell them “Jo sent me”.

Now to today’s post…

Ray is on a roll finishing some community quilts already in the new year.  Read along and see what he’s up to…

Ray writes:
Finally a finished quilt in 2023. It has been a slow start but beginning to get back in the groove with quilting. This is a wonderful quilt that Cheryl P in CO made and sent to me. The ducks are awesome and the assembly is fantastic.

I used the stipple motif with an off-white thread for the quilting.

I believe the backing came from the Deb and Pat stash. I can already see it on the line for the Airing of the Quilts on March 18. My thanks to you, Cheryl, and Deb and Pat for the materials to make this beautiful quilt.

I finished another quilt… that Cheryl in CO sent to me to finish and donate.

I have no idea if there is a name for these blocks or not. I do know that they consumed a great deal of scraps and made a wonderful and interesting quilt. WOW!! You just have to take some time to actually look at it and discover all the uniqueness in the quilt.

I was at a loss as to the motif to use and finally fell back on the old standby, stipple.

I do not recall who donated the backing fabric but this quilt certainly took its share. My thanks to you, Cheryl, and the backing donor for the generous contributions to create another special quilt for the Airing.”

WOW.  The two quilts are so different but each is wonderful in its own way.  I love that about quilts.  They can be tweaked to appeal to anyone!!

Great Job Ray!!  Many thanks to the posse who came together to donate all the items needed to make these quilts happen.

  1. Thank you to all who made the quilts possible.

Ray, don’t underestimate the meander quilting, I love it and think it is a classic of our era.

I really like the quilt with the ducks–would make a lovely wall hanging. Thanks Ray for your beautiful quilting and your faithful helpers!!

Wonderful quilts. When the quilt’s busy design and fabric are the star of the show, a stipple design is just perfect.
