Annie M. in WA made and sent me a beautiful patriotic quilt to finish for the veteran dinner in November.
Lots of great red, white and blue fabric went into this quilt.

Not only has Karen H. in NE been sending me patriotic quilts, but she has also been sending me some really fun community quilts.
There is definitely a place in this world for really fun, scrappy, happy quilts.

Annie’s quilt is fabulous. Annie always makes great quilts…Karen’s quilt is the kind that makes me want to run to my quilt strip boxes and start sewing!! How fun!! Great work, ladies, and many thanks to Ray for putting the final touches on these quilts.
More great quilts – so pretty. I feel like Jo does – I want to go start sewing fabric strips together. It is so easy looking and so very colorful. Thanks to all who had a part in these wonderful quilts.

Hi Penni – Thanks for the compliment, Penni. I’m embarrassed to tell you that I can’t recall the source of the block pattern, which I think may have been an old Kim Brackett book checked out from my library. I tried to search the books the library has and could not come up with a defining one that shows the block. In any case, it’s a nine-patch block of four quarter-square triangles surrounding a plain square with corners made from a strip attached to two squares. The corner squares are rotated to place the colored square so it appears to be between the triangles created by the quarter square pieces. I set the blocks so that they are offset from the ones in the row above. Sorry that I couldn’t direct you to the source! Annie
