Community Quilts from Ray

People often tell me that they have trouble keeping up with me. I would say, I would have trouble keeping up with Ray. WOW, that guy can really crank out a lot of quilts!! Here is the latest installment from Ray. He writes:

Linda F. in AZ made a few quilts and sent them to me to finish and to donate. I pulled this beautiful top out of the stack and it was featured at the Airing of the Quilts.

The pattern is a Bonnie Hunter pattern called Bricks and Stepping Stones. Love the pattern and it appears to be much more straightforward than most of her recent patterns.

I selected the Suzy Loops motif for longarming with white thread.

The black backing was from the stash and really makes the quilting pop.

My thanks to you and Linda for making this quilt come alive.

Just a quick minute to post another quilt finish from Linda F. in AZ. Linda used Bonnie Hunter’s Jewel Box Stars pattern to make this beautiful quilt.

I love all the bright batik fabrics that went into the top.

Since it was a star quilt pattern, I went with the star meander motif to longarm it.

I do not recall who sent the green yardage I used for the backing, but I think it really compliments the top.

My thanks to you, Linda and the backing donor for another great community quilt.

The excitement surrounding the Airing of the Quilts is done. The weather was good. Maybe a bit warm but supposed to be cloudy which helped. As I was looking over the vast array of quilts, it dawned on me that I did not have a quilt from Arline H. in the group. I dug and found one and finished it.

Arline has been a big supporter and it would not be right to not have a quilt from her on the line. These cats are adorable made out of sewing themed fabrics.

I selected the Meowz motif to use.

Arline included the cat backing fabric with the top.

My thanks to you and Arline for all of your support over the years.

WOW…wonderful quilts galore. Many thanks to all of the people who donated tops and backing fabric that made the Airing of the Quilts such a big success.

Just a reminder that Ray is accepting red, white and blue quilt tops (or even two-color quilts of these combos) for the Veterans Day Celebration that is held in his community. Last year you all, and Ray, really pulled out all of the stops and made the event a joy for all who attended. If you’re a community quilt top maker or are someone who would like to support the event, you can contact Ray at this email address and he will pass on his physical address. THANKS!!

  1. Wonderful fabric selection and piecing technique by both Linda and Arline. Ray did a thoughtful job of selecting quilting motifs to accentuate these tops. Beautiful job by all. Thank you, Jo, for sharing with us.
