Community Quilts from Ray

Michele P, in PA answered the call for red, white and blue quilts with this beautiful top.

I love how the red and blue stars pop on the white background. it definitely catches your eye.

With all those stars I could not help but use the star meader motif for quilting. I considered other colors of thread besides white and it just detracted from the stars.

But I did find some solid blue fabric to use for the backing and the quilting stars shine on the back.

The Veterans are going to love all these wonderful quilts. My thanks to you, Michele, and the backing contributor for another great patriotic quilt.

Rita S. in NC made this gorgeous Disappearing 9 patch quilt and sent it to me to finish and to donate to a veteran.

The fabrics in the quilt are wonderful and the design is fantastic. I love the way she set the initial 9 patches to get the special effect in the assembly.

I learned a lot observing the construction of this quilt. I must also confess that the border threw me for a loop. I finally realized that she made the border to complement the block construction. Awesome! This “old dog” appreciates all the lessons that you are teaching me.

I selected the twig motif to give some movement to the lines in the quilt in the white thread of course. Rita supplied the backing which coordinates with the border.

My thanks to you, and Rita for the makings of another awesome red, white, and blue quilt.”

WOW…you guys have been so awesome to answer Ray’s call for patriotic quilt tops. At the time Ray and I were hoping for five. You guys have blown us away. Thanks so much for joining the work in honoring veterans!!

Went to JoAnn’s the other day……………got 70% off on Memorial Day/American fabric that has a green tag. And, if you’re a teach or military an extra 15% discount. Bought YARDS and YARDS which I’ll pass along. Best, j

  2. The patriotic quilt is very stunning! Some very fortunate veteran will be wrapped in all the love put in by you, Ray, and the maker, Michele.

I was just looking around my sewing room to ight for some red/blue jelly roll strips to make a quilt to send Ray. Now I’m really inspired! These quilts tonight are spectacular!

  4. The disappearing nine-patch with a different (at least, to me) border caught my eye. Thank you for sharing something I might be able to accomplish as a smaller wall quilt.
