In my effort to clean off my sewing room island, I’ve been tackling projects right and left. Smack dab in the middle of the island were two community quilts a blog reader had sent to me. These were intended for me to finish and donate to the animal rescue that I work with for their benefit in the fall. Well…they have been here for an embarrassingly long time. But now, they are finally finished.

My clothesline out from broke. I’ll have to see if one of the boys can fix it for me. Thankfully, these were small enough to fit on the back privacy fence.
The two quilts are similar and use some of the same fabrics. This is the one on the left.

I was so lucky. The gal who made these also sent fabric for backing and binding. It was so appreciated.

I made the assumption that these would likely be loved by kids. That made me decide to use a simple stipple on them. They would be washed a lot and a stipple is good for that.
Here is the aqua blue one…

The backing matches the binding and the bands of aqua blue.

Anders, my grandson, just loves these. He thinks the animals are hilarious.

He especially loves this cat with the glasses on.

I used an eggshell color thread on the front and back.
Here is a Rosie picture. I went outside with the quilts, and she followed me around until I told her to sit. Then she sat perfectly.

She is so good at posing.
I am very appreciative of these quilts that were sent my way. The benefit isn’t until November…but look at me, I’m so far ahead. (It’s more fun to think that rather than about three years behind) Thanks for being patient with me.

Two great quilts! And another spot cleaned off!!
Jo, do you want to edit this post? It mentions Arnie hanging up the line. Love your quilt progress?
HA!! I did. Thanks. I wrote the post before we broke up. Oh my.
They are sweet. Snorkel dog – love him. Perfect for animal fund raiser!
Really cute quilts. A great finish to both. Thanks for quilting these for someone special
Great quilts, I especially love animal ones!
Both of those quilts are perfect for a fund raiser and the panel is really a fun one. Your getting lots done on your UFO pile.
Anders is right, those animals are hilarious! I’ll bet working on those two quilts was fun. I’m a retired PreK teacher and beginning quilter; right now I only make donation quilts for our guild that are 16″ square, wrapped around a small stuffed animal and tied with a ribbon. They are given to police and fire departments, children’s cancer wards, DSHS, etc. to comfort kids going through tough times. I work almost exclusively with bright colors and novelty prints, which makes quilting that much happier. Your quilts are lovely, and I’m sure they will be a big hit at the benefit!
Jo,
I’m so tickled that you were able to finish the quilts I sent. I know you’ve had so much on your plate this year, but I never doubted that you would get them finished. They look great! Even though I thought they would make a nice fund raiser for the animal shelter (we have had several pets and they were all from various shelters around the country), I want you to use them the way you feel will be best. The animals are just so happy and silly. Thanks for posting such great photos!
