Community Quilts from Chris

Chris is a newer finisher to the bunch and I’m just thrilled that she joined us and is already cranking out finished quilts.  I just love adding new finishers and I always have tops here just waiting for anyone who volunteers.  I just got a message from someone with 22 quilt tops and they are looking for someone to finish them.  It’s a great problem to have…so I have to ask, is anyone wanting to finish some quilt tops??

Here are three quilts I recently finished. I’m pretty sure they’re all from the Cresco Ladies. I provided the backs, batting and binding, and quilted all of them on my old Bernina.

The first I named “Monkey in the Middle.” It features an adorable embroidered monkey swinging from a branch.
The many borders… make the quilt 45 x 45. I quilted it with a simple crosshatch and finished it with a poison green binding that I think goes well with it.

The next quilt has fussy-cut monkeys (I sense a theme with these quilts!), kitties, and frogs. I had fun with this one and free-motioned some hearts using a variegated rose thread. The backing has Holly Hobby-type girls on it, and I finished it with a rose-colored binding. I’m sure some little girl will be very happy cuddling up with this quilt, which finished at 40×48.

The last quilt I named Harry Potter, for obvious reasons. I thought about free-motion quilting some Harry Potter-themed designs, but in the end, decided to keep things simple and used a double diamond pattern.

But I spiced it up with a pretty variegated thread that had the exact colors as the books.

The backing was a piece of fabric I found that had dark and darker greens, with metallic gold over it all. It looks like a night sky, except in green. I’m pretty happy with how it coordinated with the top. This quilt finished at 40×45.

All three quilts are going to Hope Cottage, a local women’s and children’s shelter. Thanks for letting me provide some cute warm quilts for the kiddos there!

Chris these turned out fabulous.  Thanks so much for volunteering.  Kudos to you for doing these on your domestic machine.  I was never very good at doing that but you’ve made these look fabulous.  Many thanks to Chris and of course the Cresco Ladies for making the tops.  WHOOT!!

Before I close I have a request from quilt finisher Cathy Morrill.

I am a donation quilter…I have many tops, thanks to Cresco guild, to finish.  I would appreciate any spare batting and backing anyone could send my way.  I will be put to good use.  Happy quilting everyone🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️

If you have backing or batting to spare, your donations would be much appreciated.
