I have quilts from Cathy to share with you today. Cathy wrote a great note along with her pictures so you can learn a little more about the group that she works with too.
Cathy writes:
“This is Cathy K from Utah. Back in February or March, you sent me 21 quilt tops to finish. I’m a volunteer for the Salt Lake Chapter of Quilts for Kids. I’ve finished the first three of these quilts. Yay!
In our QFK chapter, we mostly have women with long-arm quilting machines to finish volunteer quilts, but I make a lot of quilts myself and also finish tops that are donated. I do the quilting on my domestic Bernina. With donation quilts, I usually stick with basic stipples, loops, and crosshatch patterns.
The first quilt is a darling red and green monkey quilt. I believe it and the other two quilts I’m showing, we’re stitched by those amazing Cresco ladies. At least I hope they were because I added them to the quilt labels!
All the batting and backings are from my stash. In the monkeys’ quilt, the green polka dot backing is a much better match to the front than the camera makes it appear. It was quilted in a basic viney loop pattern.
The second quilt is… a motorcycle-themed quilt with a creative piecing layout that made super use of many scraps! I love quilts like these, and the fact that it is a very boyish theme is so wonderful! In keeping with the colors and piecing, I used two chunks of fun fabric on the back.
The red shows the stippled quilting a bit more than I’d like, but I used what I have!
The third quilt is also animal themed and is so cute! I love how they alternated the square of animals with the polka dots. The green border is like tying the whole sweet package with a bow! The backing was given to me by my friend Claudia in Washington state. It’s a super match in theme and color. I so enjoyed quilting this sweet quilt and know it’s going to give some child a lot of comfort!
Feel free to add my name to your volunteer list of quilt finishers. We (QFK) take quilts or tops in sizes ranging from 36×36” up to 50-something by 60-something that would be appropriate for infants through teens. Fabrics for borders or backing are always welcomed too, but we don’t use flannel or holiday prints.
WOW…Thanks Cathy. I so appreciate your hard work in making these quilt tops into quilts. They look great. A big shout-out to the Cresco Ladies for making the tops and passing them to me so I could pass them to Cathy. It does take a village.
If you want to be part of that village, I did add Chris’ name to the volunteer quilter page. Here is her email. catkiz@xmission.com If you have any of the items Cathy is looking for, she’s love for you to send them her way.
Any time you have anything you want to donate, the donation page can be found HERE. THANKS!!
Great quilts! I recently purchased a Bernina and learning some FMQ so I really like your simple quilting motifs. I so much want to learn to do some like the first one in this group. Thanks you for sharing and donating your time to finish these QFK.
Nice finishes Cathy! The quilting is just perfect for the tops. Thanks to you and the Cresco ladies for donations to QFK.
Your first three quilt finishes are great. Three jolly quilts which will be loved to bits. Well done the Cresco Ladies for making such lovely quilts from scraps and well done Cathy K for finishing them so beautifully.
Lovely quilt finishes and it’s so nice to see the creative tops those Cresco ladies put together. Some child is going to love those quilts.
Great Jog Cresco ladies and Kathy. The quilts are simply a joy to see. Well done.
