Community Quilt from Ray and Friends

Hip hip hooray.  I have quilts from Ray today!!  I love showing off all of the community quilts.

Ray writes:
“I wanted to share this quilt with you. The top was created by the Cresco ladies out of half-square triangles.

I am sure there is a name for the pattern but I do not know what it is. I love the soft colors in the print fabrics. I almost always like a border and they put a BORDER on this one. I almost went with the spiral motif but decided I wanted the floral motif because of the hearts on the backing. A bit of romance with hearts and flowers.

I had a hard time deciding on a thread color until I saw the variegated thread of pink/violet/black for the top and pink for the back. The backing is from Deb and Pat in FL.

Thanks to everyone, you, the Cresco ladies, Deb, and Pat for assisting in this community quilt that will be donated to a local charity.”

Here’s the next quilt…
Ray writes: “I just got the binding on this quilt that you sent and the Cresco ladies made.

It is a four patch with BIG blocks and a wide variety of colors for the sashing. Love how it all comes together. One piece of irony in the quilt is the Mickey Mouse/Boston Red Socks squares. As you know I live in Fort Myers, FL. What you don’t know is that I live about two miles from JetBlue Park which is the spring training camp for the Red Socks. I decided to go with the variegated thread on this one, pink/violet/black, on the front and pink on the back.

The backing is from Doreen C. in IA.

I just love that yellow fabric with the pink polka dots. I went with the circle meader for the quilting to add some more fun to the back. Thank you to Jo, the Cresco ladies, and Doreen for your generous contributions for a fun quilt to be donated.

I have another quilt from Ray…
He writes:
“I just finished this BIG quilt from Cheryl P. in CO. This is one of the tops she sent to me directly. It measures 81 x 89.

It is made up of 16 piece blocks set in a row with mainly pink sashing between the rows. In a large group of items, I was gifted last week was batting that would work for this top. I decided that was an omen that the top needed to be long-armed.

When I dug in my stash for backing, I found the dark green fabric from Pat and Deb in FL. I also found a light tan strip to use to make the backing big enough for the quilt.

Awesome quilt! Thanks to you, Cheryl, Deb, and Pat for your contributions. I am sure there is a local family that will be able to use this quilt to take the chill off on some cool nights we are having now.”

I have a treat as there is yet another quilt from Ray.

He writes:

“I just finished a beautiful bargello quilt that Lisa made and that you sent to me. The top was originally 28 x 43, a bit small. You included the fabric I used for the inner border with the top to make it a little bigger. The fabric you sent looked great.

As I was looking for backing, I came across the fabric I used for the outer border in the stash from Pat and Deb in FL. The backing also came from Pat and Deb. BY adding the two borders the quilt was 37 x 52.

I wasn’t sure what motif I wanted to use for a bargello quilt. I knew it needed to be minimal as the pattern needed to be front and center. Recently I found a double swirl quilt pattern and decided that was the one. I used a bone-colored thread on the front and black on the back.

I love how this quilt turned out. It is so warm and inviting. Thanks to you, Lisa, Deb, and Pat for another completed community quilt to add warmth to a lucky recipient.”

I just love seeing these quilts finished.  I see so many of them when they come in and never know how they will be finished such as the last one donated by Lisa.  I knew that 28″ x 43″ was a little bit small.  I’m thrilled to see that with some simple borders, it was quickly made into a great quilt!
