Community Quilt from ME!

Oh my goodness. I can’t begin to tell you how long this community quilt has been at my house waiting for me to give it some attention. All I can say is that it’s embarrassingly long. In my push to get the projects on my sewing room island finished, this one managed to make it to the top of the list.

One of the reasons it sat so long is that it has beautiful embroidered cats on it.

I was so unsure how to longarm it and do justice to the cats.

I didn’t want to stitch over the cats because that can cause needle breakage.

I sent a picture of the quilt to Ila, and she suggested that I use a variegated thread on top and grey thread on the back.

That was a perfect idea.

I decided on a stipple because I could get close to the cats but not go over the stitching.

I’m happy with the ending results.

The color selection on this was fabulous.

It’s also a wonderful reminder that borders don’t have to be equal in size.

I bound this with the same fabric that was sent for the backing. There was a good amount of leftover that made it possible.

Now that the quilt is done, I can’t believe that I fretted over it so much and didn’t finish it until now.

Many thanks to the person who sent this my way. I’ll be taking it to the rescue group I work with, along with three others I’ve recently completed. I’ll tell them to use them as needed for their benefits. Sometimes others donate quilts, so these might be held for the next benefit if there are already several donated quilts.

Hello Jo! Your cat quilt is perfect for the rescue group you work with! Plus, it is so wonderful that your friend Ila had the perfect insight to give guidance on how to finish the quilt! Thank goodness for friends! Today I cut fabric for a wallhanging border, oh! Now I have to cut binding too! Plus, I am cleaning my cutting table off and sorting fabrics to put away, tidying up is beneficial too.
