Not too long ago, the Cresco Ladies dropped off a bag of quilt tops. I sorted through them, getting them ready to send out to finishers. As I was sorting, I came across this top… Oh, I loved it! The colors were great. It looked like a perfect picnic quilt. That’s when I decided I could finish this quilt and I could donate it to the benefit next summer for the new playground equipment fundraiser.
So… I went shopping in my fabric closet, pieced a backing, and loaded it onto the longarm…and just like that, it’s finished.

The colors are awesome. I’m such a sucker for florals…and red. Oh my.

I just used a hook-and-bump edge-to-edge motif. You can watch a video on how I do this motif HERE.

I used white thread on the top and the back.

I had to dig a bit to find something to bind it with. I ended up with this light blue. It actually is pretty close to the blue in the quilt. WHEW. It’s always challenging to find binding for a quilt I didn’t assemble.

I think this backing was a thrift store find. I don’t remember. It was exactly the right amount of fabric with very little left over. It’s more of the shade of the dark blue in the floral blocks.

All in all…it worked out perfectly. I am absolutely thrilled to have this one in the donation closet ready to go when they need a quilt for the benefit next May. I’m truly doin the happy dance. To have a quilt lined up to go that far in advance is a HUGE relief to me.
Many-many thanks to the Cresco Ladies for the wonderful quilt top. I appreciate the donation so much. It takes a big pressure off me to have a quilt finished and ready.

That’s a really pretty quilt! You did a terrific job with it too. It should do well at the fund raising, at least I hope so! It’s nice to have it done so far ahead. Perhaps they can use it advertising the fund raiser!
Very pretty quilt!!
Jo, I have a question. Do you use cotton or polyester thread for your longarm quilting? I had been trying to always use cotton thread for my quilting on my domestic machine. But since Joann Fabrics closed, I’m running low on colors of my Gutermanñ thread. I know I can order it online, but I got really good prices at Joann, lol. So now I’m using my polyester cone thread that I had for a serger machine I no longer have. Most of what I make these days are donation baby quilts. Just looking for another opinion. Thanks!
That is a very pretty quilt! I like that the pattern is very simple but so wonderful in those colors. Great to have something ready when the need arises. I like your flowers!
