Cheryl sent two quilts to me earlier, and somehow they must have gotten lost in the shuffle. If you ever send something to me and I don’t answer, always feel free to send it again.
Now onto Cheryl and Judy’s quilt top…
This lovely top was made by Judy M. of Lynchburg, Virginia. She has sent many tops to me in the past, and her piecing is so accurate. The top is 91” x 104”, which could be a bedspread for a queen size bed. The pattern of Judy’s blue and white top is “Railroad Ties.”

The quilting pattern is Zoidberg Feathers designed by Barbara Becker; it is available at www.UrbanElementz. I have an affinity for feathers, and this one is particularly charming with all those swirls and circles.

I didn’t know there were so many batik blues and greens in existence.

Look out the precise way those blocks match up! Yes, Judy is fastidious in her work.

Let me get on with it . . . the reveal!

Don’t you like the way the middle piano key borders are off-set? I have such a problem lining up borders made of specific size squares so they will come out even at the corners. This idea of leaving opposite corners “bare” could solve that issue. Yep, I am so gonna copy Judy’s idea.

The solid blue fabric for the binding came from my stash. I have a serious deficit of batiks in my closet.

Enjoy the swirls and feathers!

The backing is a sheet from a local thrift store. I added a vertical row of blue strips to either side of a blue 8” wide insert to make the backing long enough for the quilt. Why didn’t I get a photo of the backing insert?

This quilt became the star of an exhibit for the Christian Women’s Club conference for the group’s leaders that was held in St. Simon’s Island, Georgia. Judy’s quilt was used as prize in a “Quarter Auction” demonstration for the club leaders. Quarter Auctions are popular in Florida, and as a result of showing the leaders how it’s done, many more groups will be using this activity at their monthly luncheons. The purpose is not to raise money but to provide entertainment for the ladies who bring their neighbors for a bit of fun and spiritual encouragement.
While I was at the chemo infusion center, sitting for my 4 hours infusion, my sister-in-law sent me a photo of the group leader who had just “won” this lovely quilt. She was thrilled. When I sent back a picture of me with all those lines hooking me up to the machine, she said she would add me to her prayer list. I love it! “Will quilt for prayer.”
Judy, sorry it has taken me so long to finish your quilt top but know that it is already being enjoyed by the new owner.
What GREAT work, ladies. The quilt turned out wonderfully. I always love seeing how Cheryl brings the pretty quilt tops to life. Thank you for all you do.

The quilt is beautiful! Those seams! WOW!
Never heard of a quarter auction and I’m from FL! :-o I’ll have to look into that!
Love and prayers
Thank you ladies, beautiful quilt!
Lovely quilt and congrats to the winner. I have looked on line for the pattern “Railroad Ties” and I cam up with a completely different pattern. Can you provide the name of the author? Maybe with a little more info I would be able to locate it. Thank You for sharing.
I believe that this is Sticks and Stones by Missouri Quilt Company.

Beautiful quilt! The colors are gorgeous and I really like the quilting motif. Thank you ladies for your great work!
Thank you Pat, I also searched for the name of the pattern given and you gave the correct name. Missouri star even has it as a free pattern.
