Pieceful Nights Quilt Along

A post from Kelli:

As we keep sewing along, I keep liking the blocks the more and more.   The colors in the line work together so nicely.   I just love laying them out side by side knowing that by the end of the year I’ll have a quilt.  I like that all of you are keeping me on track.

This month we are doing two blocks.   For May, we will be making block number 5–Tea Party Variation and 6–Uncle Sam’s Hourglass Variation.

Fit to Frame Along #2

I finished my February block and got started on the March block.  Here’s the February block.

FittoFrame-Feb

Here’s the March block.  If you are reading the pattern, it is actually block #7.  I started stitching on mine already.

FittoFrame-2

I have been stitching mine with all tan thread.  I wanted to give it more of a primitive look.  Part of me wishes that I would have used matching colors but it’s too late now so onward I stitch.

Several of you have you blocks done…

Here is Nancy in PA’s block…

Pieceful Nights–A Sampler Quilt–Month 1

From Kelli:
Well it’s a new year and with a new year we all need a new quilt project right? Of course right!

When mom and I were looking into what kinds of projects we were looking to do on the blog this year we couldn’t quite decide what we wanted to do.   Mom was thinking that it might be best to do a stitching project, but I thought it would be best to do a quilt of some kind.   After discussing ideas and looking at possible patterns, we decided that we would be doing two projects.   I would be leading the Pieceful Nights monthly quilt along and she would be leading the applique/wool project using Lori Smith’s “Fit to Frame Pattern #6″ pattern.

There is still time for anyone to join us.  You can get Lori’s Pieceful Nights pattern here.

Pieceful Nights: A Sampler Quilt by Lori Smith

One of the downsides of my personality is that I rely very heavily on examples.   But I am slowly working on changing my ways!   When mom came up with the idea of making the quilt using Laundry Basket’s new Paintbox line that will be out in stores soon, I was a bit skeptical at first.   I wasn’t quite sure how the blocks would look if they were made from printed fabric as well as batiks, but I decided to give it a shot and boy am I glad I did!   Here’s the block from January, block #1 “China Doll”…

January

And here is block #2 “Lighthouse” that we will be making for February…

February

After playing with these fabrics, I am very excited to see what my future blocks will look like!   I am very surprised at how well the batiks play with the prints.

I know that last week I said that we would be posting the pictures for the quilt along to Pinterest, but we are having some technical difficulties that we are still sorting out.   Hopefully we will have everything mastered by next month so that we can start sharing on the “Pieceful Nights” pinterest board.   For those of you that are “pinteresters” you can search for Jo’s Country Junction and can find us under the “Pinners” tab.   For this month, you can email your quilt blocks to mom at rogjok@iowatelecom.net and we will be adding them to this post.   You can also blog about it on your block and link back to us using the Mr. Linky below…and now for the blocks that were sent in….
