I ran across a recipe and had to try it. You know the kinds. They sound too good to be true.
So the recipe was this….
1 yellow cake mix (don’t follow the directions on the back)
1 softened stick of butter
1 bag of chocolate chips
Mix it together-put in a greased pan. Bake for 25 minutes. The recipe didn’t specify the size of pan.
Hmm. Was it worth trying? I was a sucker and did.
Being the recipe didn’t have a pan size…well it actually said “in whatever sized pan you want”. Hmm. I don’t think the author thought that pan size really does make a difference in cooking time. If it’s in a smaller pan the dough will be thicker which increases cooking time. Hmm.. I ended up putting in my cast iron skillet. I ended up baking it for 30 minutes. 25 wasn’t enough time.
Here’s how it looked.Awesome I thought….
But then it was time for a taste test….
Hubby loved it. He ate about three pieces right away. Me, not so much loving on my part. Do you know how a cake mix tastes like cake mix. Well I don’t love that taste. These taste like cake mix to me.
I know you’re likely thinking…duh. You made it out of cake mix. You’d be right. I should have realized that they would taste like cake mix.
So would I make them again…YES! I love having treats in the house that are quick to make and that I don’t like. I don’t eat them then!! Hubby really does love it too. So if you have someone in your house that likes the taste of cake mix, they will likely like these.
So how’s that for a recipe. (sounds pretty confusing to me!) By the way. The original author called these Lazy Chocolate Chip Cookies. I have no idea where that name came from….It’s definitely NOT a cookie. It’s a bar. (yep…more confusing)
STOP*** I wrote this blog post after I had tasted these warm. They are MUCH better once cooled and most of the cake mix flavor leaves…the are much better cooled so I take it all back. I like these***
If you try them…tell me what you think!!
