Book Review: Split

I recently listened to Split by Swati Avasthi.

Amazon lists the book as having a five star rating….I totally agree.  The book is good and does deserve five stars.

The book starts as 16 year old Jace is fleeing his parents in hopes of finding his estranged brother, Christian who live miles and miles away.  While he travels we learn a few things…Jace was thrown out of his family home by his father who is a judge.  The wounds on his face were caused by that same abusive father.  He has little more than pocket change with him…and that there is a secret.

His brother is not happy to see Jace as he was making progress on rebuilding his life after leaving the family behind.  Adding to the newly formed relationship between the boys is Christian’s girlfriend, Mirriam.

As the story progresses, we learn about the last incident that made Jace leave…we learn why Christian left and we also learn why Jace is so insistent on wanting and hoping his mother will leave as well.   Complicating everything is fear of the father….his relationship with the court and his power.

Added to the plot are an old girlfriend, Lauren, that was left behind and a new girlfriend Dakota who is faced with choices.

This book is a true story of hope…hope that people will change….hope that one can follow the serenity prayer.

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.”

I don’t want to tell you a lot more as I don’t want to reveal too much and give the story away….all in all, it is well worth the read or listen.  You can find the book here on Amazon in book (Split) and in Kindle format (Split).
