I was able to steal one crochet book away from Kelli! Today I am reviewing Crochet Red: Crocheting for Women’s Heart Health by Laura Zander from Sterling Publishing.
At first glance I thought the book was just a collection of crochet patterns made in red for a marketing scheme. Essentially, it is. However, the designs in the book are awesome and the cause they are marketing is important!
The book is a compilation of work from several popular designers, my favorites being Vickie Howell and Nicky Epstein. Although, incidentally, I am not a big fan of the quirky designs they contributed.
That’s okay! There are so many other projects I will try including hats, mittens, and scarves. Although I usually don’t like crocheted clothing, the Sweater With Cowl by Marly Bird is a design I would definitely wear.
Each of the patterns includes a biography about the crocheter, how they are involved with heart health awareness, and a stay-healthy tip. I like to actually read my crochet books so this is a fun touch.
This book is reasonably priced at $17.95 USD. Even at that bargain, a portion of proceeds support the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health. Thanks again to Sterling Publishing for the opportunity to review this book! I have just the right yarn to make the Sweater With Cowl and enjoyed reading the biographies.
