Bonnie Challenge

Just the other day Jenny left a comment that said, “Hi Jo! I have loved your blog ever since I first found it through moda bakeshop :). Are you doing the bonnie hunter mystery this year? And if so are you planning on doing the finish up of ufo’s before it starts? It helped me sooo much last year :) plus I loved seeing what people made.”

Well Jenny, I was thinking about it and your note prompted me to say YES and YES!!

For those of you who don’t know, last year my friend Nell and I decided that we wanted to finish up a Bonnie Hunter UFO project before her new mystery started.  We figured some of our blog readers might want to do the same so we issued a challenge.  It was…Pick a Bonnie Hunter quilt that you have started and try to make some progress on it each week, working on it until the first clue of the new mystery is revealed in November.  They I put up a linky and bloggers linked up…those without blogs sent me a photo of their progress.

Last year I finished my quilt early….It was Stars over Shallotte.

I started working on another quilt, Smith Mountain Morning and got a ways on it too.  I ended up finishing that one after the mystery but without the challenge, I am guessing it would still be in the UFO pile.

Nell and I both have Bonnie Hunter UFO projects still waiting to be finished, so lets do this again this year!!  Goodness knows I have plenty of quilts in the UFO pile that are Bonnie quilts…there is Virginia Bound…

I have Rectangle Wrangle…

Perkiomen Daydreams-(Kelli and I are working on this jointly and it’s at her house)

Blue Skies-I looked and can’t find it but I know it’s started.  Maybe it’s at Kelli’s house.

Can you believe while I was hunting these projects I even found Texas Braid?

I know I’d love to work on Pineapple Crazy but I know I’ll never get anywhere close to finishing it so I think I’ll pick a different one.   In fact, I know which one I should pick….last year’s mystery, Celtic Solstice….Stop back on Wednesday and see what I ended up picking.

On Wednesday we can all share what we are going to do for our Bonnie challenge project-everyone gets to pick their own project.  I’ll have a linky box for bloggers to link up and if you don’t have a blog, leave a comment in the comment section and tell us what project you’re working on.

  1. I must have been reading your mind – I grabbed my Celtic Solstice and finished the piecing last week! Now I must find another to work on – Boxy Stars, Zukkerwatte or Pineapple Crazy are the ones I have on the go.

  2. I don’t have a Bonnie quilt to pull out and finish- my Celtic Solstice comes back from the long armer the end of this month! Guess I should pull another UFO to work on…..

  3. I’ll be playing along. I have a few to finish. The Midnight Flight is closest to a FINISH but I also have a BowTie L/E, Boxy Stars, Pineapple Blossom and a 2nd Celtic Solstice that I want to change to Cathedral Stars. It uses the same Tri Rec Stars block. Thanks for the heads up in time to gather and post next week.

  4. I’m a newby! I just started the one for this year. It is the Logenzes quilt. Love it, love it love it!

    Take care.

  5. I finally finished Cathedral Stars and Starstruck earlier this year — didn’t know about your challenge. I still have Celtic Solstice, Easy Street, and Smith Mountain Morning to finish. Easy Street just needs the borders and they are already cut, so I think I’ll work on that one for your challenge. I don’t plan to do this year’s mystery; instead I will try to finish at least one of the other two UFOs in the same time period. The only other BH quilt I have on the back burner (i.e., not even cut yet) is Midnight Flight and that will probably be my last one.

  6. I’m going to be doing the mystery this year and can’t wait to start. The only Bonnie quilt that I have going is last year’s leader/ender, the split nine-patch. I just got the last of the 182 blocks made over the weekend so now the rows need to be finished. Does it count??? :) I was wondering if you were going to do this one again! Thank you!

  7. Awesome plan again! I just finished my lozenge blocks and plan to get that together before the mystery and I have Playing with Jacks from a workshop with Bonnie…not nuts for my modern blocks but am going to turn them into a little top and be done with them!

  8. Bah!! I KNOW I need to do this. But that means… That means getting out the bin of Celtic Solstice parts and trying to make heads or tails of it. Loved it at first, then didn’t like how it was coming together, then away over Christmas… So I stuck it in a bin and there it’s been ever since.

Time to get it out and see what I can do with it over the next month… After all, I’ve already pulled fabrics out for Grand Illusion! :)
