Blast from the Past: Quilting in February 2012

I’m doing a little series of posts that feature old blog posts.  I have been going back and looking at them.  It’s been fun.  I started blogging in June of 2009…WOW.  Over ten years.  I’m so glad I’ve kept the blog as a diary of sorts…today I’m telling you about things I was working on in February of 2012.

2011 was the Quiltville Mystery was Orca Bay.  I finished mine in February.  You can find the pattern in Bonnie’s book String Fling.

I went on and made every quilt from the book.  You can see them all HERE.
Ocra_Bay_BindingI loved making this quilt.

In 2012, I learned that it’s okay to… give up on a project and let it go.  I did that with this fan project.  I ended up selling it on a garage sale I hosted.  10 years later, still no regrets.

I machine quilted a quilt for Kelli’s mother-in-law.

It was so colorful.

Kelli and I went to a quilt guild and were the guest speakers.  Here we are packing up our quilts.  I look at what we were taking then and nowadays, we have a completely different bunch of quilts that we take.

Kelli was working on a project for Moda Bake Shop.

Kelli made this project from the Back to Charm School book from the gals at Country Threads.  You can find the book HERE.

Kelli was also making a fun project with buttons.  She traced an “H” on black fabric and then filled it in by sewing on buttons in the space.  She has since framed this and it’s really cool.

It was at this point that I decided to get rid of my Accuquilt Go.

It took up so much space and I really didn’t use it.

This was the quilt square we did for February in our Quilt Block quilt along.  Each month we picked a block for one of Lori Smith’s From my Hand to Your Heart patterns and many made one along with us.

This was our quilt block for March.  Being we were hosting, Kelli and I had to make our blocks ahead.  I made two this month.

Kelli made her’s larger into a table runner.

I made this quilt for the Fireman’s benefit.  That checkered sashing took a long time to make!!

I made too much of it and it went into the backing.

Kelli participated in a contest called Slice.  If you haven’t heard about it, here are a few details.  Participants made a project during the month of February as their “audition” project.  Each of those projects needed to be made from a Moda precut with optional extra yardage.  They have to be for the office or studio and need to include a buckle in the design.  These projects were judged.  From there, participants were selected to go on to the next level of competition.  Then they needed to complete one project each week competing to have the best project.

Kelli came up with this idea.  It is meant to help her organize her sewing goodies.

There are seven different pockets altogether.

Here’s a preview of the pockets.  I love this one with the braid.

This one is a pincushion.

This one has a red work embroidery work.

This one has a cute raw edge ruffle.

I love the added rick rack.

Two of the blocks feature quilt blocks.  This one has a star….

and this one has a Friendship Star.

Sadly, Kelli didn’t win even though her idea was cute and she had a fun time working on it.

That’s about all the excitement for the sewing room in 2012.  Wait, I take that back.  At that time in my life, most of the sewing was done on the dining room table…I’m sure many of you can relate!!

I just love going back and seeing what I was doing 10 years ago.  I love seeing how what I was doing then got me to where I am today.

  1. Kelli is very creative. Her basket is very cute. I like er button initial, too. You continue to make beautiful quilts but it is fun to see what you made 10 years ago.

  2. This was a fun review, but I can’t imagine quilting all the time without an Accuquilt cutter…even if it was at least for strips!!
