Blast from the Past: June 2014

I’m doing a little series of posts that feature old blog posts.  I have been going back and looking at them.  It’s been fun.  I started blogging in June 2009…WOW.  Over fourteen years.  I’m so glad I’ve kept the blog as a diary of sorts…today I’m telling you about things I was working on in June of 2014.

In the sewing room, I was busy making quilts for gifts. In no time at all, I made two rail fence quilts tops.

I finished my Smith Mountain Morning quilt. You can read more about it HERE.

I was busy and finished up two community quilts.

I was busy working on this quilt…there are so many half-square triangles in this quilt…SO MANY!! It was later published in American Patchwork and Quilting.

What a lot of triangles…over 1600!!

Kelli and I met up with my blog reader and friend, Ila. It was great to see her. I don’t see her often but sure do love it when I do.

We were fixing up our foreclosure house, the one I now live in. Rain was relentless and continually delayed our progress.

Kramer moved the old garage onto the cement pad we poured last month. You can read about that HERE.

We took off the old kitchen and back porch.

You can read more about it HERE.

Upstairs at the house, I was working on tearing out walls and making my closet bigger. You can read about it HERE.

I was puppy sitting our daughter Kalissa’s puppy Betsy and she shredded toilet paper and left it all over the kitchen.

Thankfully she was a good puppy part of the time.

I was busy playing Great Auntie with my niece Jody’s kiddos. This was when she was first diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a fun time with the kids that I’ll always remember. I got my classic play dough recipe out and made a batch of play dough. You can find that recipe HERE. That’s Kalissa with my great niece Stacey. It’s hard to believe she’s a momma now and has her own sweet baby.

I busted out laughing right out loud as I went back and reread everything that had happened in June of 2014. One of the things… Kelli and I went to the Stitchery Nook. I think it was the first time. Oh my. That’s my cross stitch shop that I love. That was what launched my revival of crossstitch. WOW.

Most of my time in June of 2014 was spent playing Auntie and working at the house. WOW. Going back and reading about the house remodel really makes me realize how much sweat equity we put into it. WOW. I think it’s a little like birthing a baby. After everything is said and done and the baby is out and okay, you forget about how being pregnant is not fun or how painful the delivery is. I’m looking forward to writing the next Blast from the Past so I can go back and read what happens next. HA!!

  1. Oh my goodness, it’s staggering to see how much work was involved with your house remodel! Hats off to you and Kramer, you did an amazing job!

  2. This was a great review. I loved reading all about your June 2014. I made a similar quilt with all thoseHSTs. Mine was a cross between the quilt in the magazine and also a Bonnie Hunter Leader & Ender quilt. All the HSTs made me name my version Shark Bite! I’m looking forward to the next installment of your memory posts.

  3. Yes you and Kramer put much sweat equity in remodeling the house, but the end result is such a beautiful place. And then besides all that you did so much in the sewing department! I am sure it helped to be so much younger!

  4. Your post “A Silly Story” is all jibberish. I don’t always comment but it’s been happening a lot lately, sorry.

    1. Sharon, I have found that I can go back the next day and try the gibberish posts again, and they’re readable.
