Blast from the Past: July 2014

I’m doing a little series of posts that feature old blog posts.  I have been going back and looking at them.  It’s been fun.  I started blogging in June 2009…WOW.  Over fourteen years. Today I’m still playing catch up. I’m so glad I’ve kept the blog as a diary of sorts…today I’m telling you about things from July of 2014.

In my quilting life, I took the head of my longarm to get cleaned and while I was there, I rented a long arm with a bigger table. Mine is only 10″ wide. I needed a bigger one. I was longarming my Easy Street Mystery quilt.

I did the longarming and bound my daughter Kelli’s Talkin’ Turkey quilt. You can find out more about the quilt HERE.

I was working on my Spoolin’ Around quilt.

I did the longarming and binding on this community quilt.

I finished this community quilt too.

In an “Ask Jo” post, I told you about how I bind quilts…

…and told about how I do the Baptist fan designs.

You can read about that HERE.

I was working on my Lozenges quilt.

I finished two rail fence quilts that I gave as gifts. You can read about them HERE.

My daughter Kelli started her first big cross-stitch project.

The crops were in so we were back to working on the house. The oldest three kids came home one weekend and helped. Most of the work was happening in the upstairs bedrooms.

We took the old chimney out of the house.

We struggled with getting workers to the house for the remodel. We needed a company to come and saw the part of the house we were removing off. They took forever to come. I was so happy when they finally came.

Other work at the house was slow as we were in a rainy spell. It was so wet. Here was the lawn at the farm after I mowed.

After it dried, my husband took the skid loader into town and backfilled everything around the house. We were frustrated as the people who were going to do the cement work for the basement told us they wouldn’t arrive until August.

We were busy “harvesting” old wood flooring from an abandoned farmhouse. That was a long and dreary job.

We were doing other harvesting too. We bought the woodwork out of the house. That was a couple of HUGE days of work. We got doors from the house that are now in this house.

We got LOTS of trim boards. I finally sold the ones that were left over.

Finding this house was perfect for us. I can see the drawer in the back. That drawer is to the built-in dresser in my closet. We got the attic hatch and a lot of other wood there…but what a job it was.

On a personal note, we celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary.

I was busy in the kitchen. I was making strawberry rolls. Nowadays I still make them but prefer a raspberry flavor instead. You can find the recipe HERE.

I was making Overnight Casserole. This was good and easy-peasy. You can find the recipe HERE.

We were working on the house after work every day and I was on the struggle bus trying to come up with food I could make for supper. Biscuit Joes were on the list of things I was making. You can find the recipe HERE.

I was making Chicken Quesadillas. I used a pizzaz back then but use my griddle nowadays. You can read more HERE.

Some quilting went one…lots of work at the house happened in July of 2014. Stay tuned for the August installment. I’m trying so hard to catch up.

“What I’m Working On” and “Blast from the Past” are my favorite posts to read.
    I’m always so impressed!

  2. I agree with Cynthia and would add “Cross Stitch Updates”. I’m exhausted just reading your post today. Wow Jo!!!!

  3. You and your family were extremely busy during that time of your life. You saved so much by all your hard work and sweat and the end results is such a beautiful house which have made into a beautiful home.

  4. Between taking care of your family and a home, quilting, demolishing and rebuilding …. I don’t know how you had time to eat, sleep or breathe. I do love reading your “Blast” posts.
