Blast from the Past: January 2015

I’m doing a little series of posts that feature old blog posts. I have been going back and looking at them. It’s been fun. I started blogging in June 2009…WOW—over fifteen years. Today, I’m still playing catch-up, so today I’m telling you about January of 2015.

We were deep into the house at this point. We got things together enough to move in, but it was far from finished. It still isn’t. In between all of my house work, my kiddos helped fill in a few blog posts for me. My daughter Kayla was taking a grad class that involved making videos, and had to make one. She shared the video with us on how to make mitered corner blocks from shirts.

You can push play to watch the video.

Kelli and I were super excited. Our book was coming out.

We were doing a preview of all of the quilts in our book, Country Girl Modern. The book is still available HERE.

This was School Bus. You can read about it HERE.

This is Moda-licious. You can read more about it HERE.

Puddle Duck was the next quilt…you can read about it HERE.

This is Modern Day Patriot. You can read more about it HERE.

This is May Flower. It’s a favorite of mine. I designed it. Kelli sewed it. I’d like to make one someday. You can read more about it HERE.

This one is perfect for a fast community quilt. If I remember right I sewed this one over a weekend. It’s charm pack friendly. You can read more about it HERE.

This colorful quilt is a real eye catcher. Again, it’s not a hard quilt at all. This is Bohemian Rhapsody. You can read more about it HERE.

This was another quilt I sewed over a weekend. This is Almost Amish. You can read more about it HERE.

Rainbow Connection is next. This one is great for a beginning quilter. There are no seams to match!! It’s a great scrap buster, too. You can read about it HERE.

It’s funny. I just pulled out the bonus triangle leftovers of this quilt and am making them into a baby quilt. 10 years later!!

I had a blog reader upset that I was contemplating changing the design of a mystery quilt I was making. I answered that in THIS POST.

Once January of 2015 rolled around I worked at the house like it was a full time (plus) job.

When we remodeled the house, we harvested old floor boards from a farmhouse, cleaned them, and then installed them in our house. It was a labor of love. I still love them to this day. It was so much work…but totally worth it to have something I still like and want in the house. We got the kitchen and main floor done first. Then we went upstairs and started that. Kramer started to be worried that we wouldn’t have enough boards.

We started prioritizing room by room. My sewing room, YES. The bathroom, YES. The hallway, YES! The closet for the sewing room…maybe? It turned out we had enough with these few boards to spare.

I was busy sanding the floors at the house. They went from this…

to this.

WHAT A JOB!!

I was painting. I painted the ENTIRE house in January of 2015.

I have this picture to prove it.

This is the sewing room…I still love this warm, buttery color.

We were running out of money and I was running out of patience. I ended up mixing some old paint we had and painted this bedroom…

This is how it looks now…

Whenever we have people at the house, they ask what color of paint this is because they like it so much. HA!! You can read the story HERE.

The carpenters came and installed the kitchen cabinets.

I was busy at the house staining floors.

Toward the end of the month, we finally moved. Our stairway upstairs is really tight. We put a door in my sewing room to the outside. We had a friend bring a telehandler, and we put the upstairs items on it and hoisted them to the upper door.

This, plus a few others, was our moving crew.

You can read more about the house in THIS post.

This is how the house looked…so bare.

We didn’t have the trim work done…But I didn’t care. I was in the house!!

The house was so bare when we first moved in.

I immediately found a spot for the chickens Ila gave me. They are still there in the kitchen.

I can’t believe all we packed into a short period of time. WOW. I certainly was in much better shape then. I can’t imagine painting, sanding floors, and moving now!! I’ve gotten old in ten years!!

You’ve gotten OLDER in the past ten years. Can’t think of you as being OLD with all you do and your young attitude.

  2. Young at heart and tackling life one day at a time ❤️
I love how resourceful you and Kramer AND the family were, in salvage and elbow grease to get your new home the way you wanted it to be. I’ve never seen a salvage offer around here.

    Happy Saturday Jo !

  3. Hi Jo! I am making a series of 11 Christmas medallion quilts for my family members. I’ve bought tons of fabric and changed the plan many times and bought many many patterns and after a year have two started, 0 done but hope springs eternal. Anyway l love your Puddle Jump for a border and will make a big Christmas star for the medallion, which is the theme of the series. So I’ll be ordering the book tomorrow and begin a third one. While finishing up the post I noticed that you included my crumb quilt as part of the memories from the past along with your inspiration. Again thank you for the tutorials which made it possible for me to make it.

I loved Kayla’s video on how to make the striped blocks. I’ll be putting some of them around the first medallion star I made. I get side tracked on that project waaaayyyy too often!

And I really liked your house building memories! What a trooper you were and continue to be! I love your blog. Wishes for your continued healing and success on the cancer front. As I learned in my cancer fight EVERY DAY WE ARE STILL ALIVE IS A DAY WE ARE CALLED A SURVIVOR! Congrats to both of us in our survivorship! Xoxox. Meylonie
