I’m doing a little series of posts that feature old blog posts. I have been going back and looking at them. It’s been fun. I started blogging in June 2009…WOW—over fifteen years. Today, I’m still playing catch-up, so today I’m telling you about February of 2015.
Kelli and I had been showing quilts from our book Country Girl Modern. I showed many of them in the January 2015 Blast from the Past. Here are the rest from the book.
This is Pilot Knob. You can read more about it HERE.

This was the last quilt from the book, Thanks to YOU! You all were great and sent up background fabrics for this. The one you see below is the version from the book. You can read more about it HERE.

This is the first one I made in Civil War prints. I still have this quilt, and it’s a favorite of mine. Can you believe I also made a 3rd quilt of this…it was Kayla and Spencer’s wedding quilt.

After moving everything, I held a “great quilt giveaway”. I’ve done that a couple of times. I pick people and I pick quilts and I let them choose the quilt they want and I give them away for no reason other than I value my relationship with them. Here are the quilts I gave away.
This is Cheddar and Blue. You can find the free pattern HERE.

Friends of ours who we butchered hogs with took Easy Street. You can read more about that quilt HERE. I made two of the Easy Street mysteries.

A friend of ours let us having the old flooring in his farm house that he was burning down. It’s the flooring in my house now. They wouldn’t accept payment for the flooring so I gifted them a quilt.

These two quilts we made and had published in Sweet Celebrations with Moda Bakeshop Chefs: 35 Projects to Sew from Jelly Rolls, Layer Cakes, Fat Quarters, Charm Squares & More. The quilt in the front of the picture I also gave away. That one will be the raffle quilt at the upcoming Fireman’s Breakfast here in Waucoma. Tickets are only $1 each!!
Buck took Lazy Sundays. You can read about it HERE. I think this has since come out in a Bonnie Hunter book. At the time, it was a mystery in Quiltmaker magazine.

Karl took Smith Mountain Morning.

You can read more about this quilt HERE.

Craig and Kalissa took Cinder Blocks.

You can read more about it HERE.

Kayla picked a quilt later when she was home for a visit. I can’t remember what she picked. I know it was a Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt that was later published in a magazine.
Kelli put a hold on this quilt…It’s my crumb quilt. Sorry, there is no pattern for it. I wasn’t ready to part with it at the time…in fact, I still have it. I told Kelli she might not get it until I know my time is coming up. It’s a favorite of mine.

Between working on the house and moving, I had zero sewing time. I was just thrilled to sew a sewing machine up. It was in the laundry room and I could easily sneak away for a few minutes and sew on a block or two.

I was busy working on Bonnie Hunter’s Pineapple Crazy quilt.
I was doing a sew along for a double wedding ring quilt. I was telling how important it is to have a small rotary cutter when cutting curved pieces. You can check out the complete double wedding ring directions and sew along info HERE.

Our book was featured at Quilt Con. You can see our quilt, May Flowers. Oh, I love this quilt. Kelli made the original. I’d love to make one. You can find our book with the pattern HERE.

When I was unpacking, I came across this…it was the first thing I ever had published in a magazine. I was so thrilled when I found out it was going to be featured.

This is the magazine it was in. Can you see it in the middle of the cover page. The local paper even wrote an article about it being published. HA!!

Our quilts came back from our book being published. Oh, it was crazy. We hadn’t seen these for a long time.

I had to really laugh when I reread this blog post. A blog reader had sent me some potholders as a house warming gift.

The reason I had to laugh is because I still have these, and they are in tough shape. I was cleaning out drawers and told myself I needed to make new ones, and these needed to be tossed. They have served me well for 10 years.
We were busy butchering hogs with friends. We don’t do that anymore. I miss it. The meat was so much better.

Kramer was getting doors in the house installed. Can you believe we lived in the house for four weeks without a bathroom door??

Kramer was busy remaking some cabinets for the laundry room.
I can’t remember if the original cabinets were in the house when we bought it or if these were ones we bought on a garage sale. I think from the house when we bought it. Kramer cut them down and had to remake them to fit the laundry room.

Here they are up. I still have them in the laundry room.

We were in unpacking mode. Reading about this reminds me of how much I hate moving. At this age, it would be even worse. I was telling you the story of how we bought this white antique cabinet, stripped it, and refinished it. I had to live with it like this for a month while we tried to find new hinges and small screws for the hardware. I was so happy when the doors were finally on. I still have this cabinet and still love it.

I have to say, I don’t miss moving…I’m so glad this is past. It is fun to look back, but I’m happy to stay right here.

These “blasts” are so fun. It’s snowing here and the perfect morning to sip my tea and enjoy each quilt, look at all the links, and enlarge the photos! Every time I see May Flowers I want to make it. I have your book and gave a copy to my sister thinking we could make this together. It would look great in any fabric and we like different styles. Anyway, today I’m thinking it would also be fun in darker colors for my son. Hmmm.
You had a phenomenal 2015! Love all the quilts and I love the house process and reminders of Kramer’s handy work and your love of thrift. Beautiful memories :-)
Happy Saturday Jo!
Hey Jo, I have a question. You have an “Amazon” link on the sidebar. Whenever I am going to shop at Amazon, I try to remember to come to your blog first and click on the Amazon link, then do my shopping. But I always wonder, at what step do you get credit. If I haven’t went through your blog and clicked on it, then shop and then I remember to go to your blog and click on Amazon, do you get credit? Or does it have to be on an item that you have on your blog?
I do get credit anytime you go to my blog first, click the link and then go and shop on Amazon. The items don’t cost you extra. They just give me a small percent of their profit. Thanks for doing that!!
Good morning Jo. I hope all is well in your neck of the woods. I am in California and it is starting to get very cold in the morning, but come afternoon it’s in the mid-70’s. Oh how I wish I was in a small town like you are. You have so many awesome photos. I love them and I hope you keep them coming.
Can I ask where I can obtain a copy of the “Thanks to You!!!” pattern? I love that quilt and I can see why you made it three times. It is a gorgeous quilt and with civil war/reproduction prints – I’m so there!!!!
I hope you have a wonderful, blessed day. I pray you are recovering nicely. By the blog posts I can see you are coming along exceptionally well.
Blessings and love are on the way to you and the family. You’re the best!!!
That quilt pattern is in Jo and Kelli’s book “Country Girl Modern”. I just checked, and the book is available on Amazon, both as a paperback and as a Kindle edition.
Thank you so much Dot in NC. I have the book and I’ll look for it right now. I guess I should have dug it out of my stack of quilting books first.
Have a wonderful, blessed evening Dot.
Love the “Blast from the past” posts! This one was fun seeing the quilts you have made in the past. This is off topic, but I was wondering if I am remembering correctly… didn’t you post a few weeks ago about looking for new punch needle kits or supplies? I saw a post on my YouTube feed today from Bernina Jeff. He was featuring punch needle kits. I thought it might be something that would interest you.
Every time I see your crumb quilt, I tell myself it’s time to make one. I love that quilt. I’ve even started on it a couple of times. Well, during trying to clean up and organize, I’ve run across some of the blocks. Maybe if I set a goal of a couple of little blocks a week, I’ll have enough to actually make one. That is one of my favorite quilts. Thanks for sharing and showing it again.
I enjoy your Blast from the Past posts so much. the amount of hard work you and Kramer and your kids put into your house! I love that cupboard in wood color so much more than white. I love seeing all your quilts too. Especially your crumb quilt. Hope you are feeling better each day.
Dear Jo, I am enjoying the reminiscing and love your quilt show! Such beautiful quilts and such grateful recipients too, I might add! Love and gratitude and a spritz of joy as well. Happy Holidays and be well. (I would love a photo of your potato chip or is it a crumb quilt (?) too!)
My mom had the exact same Singer sewing machine. And now I have it. Still works great!
