I’m doing a little series of posts that feature old blog posts. I have been going back and looking at them. It’s been fun. I started blogging in June 2009…WOW—over fifteen years. Today, I’m still playing catch-up, so today I’m telling you about December of 2014.
We were in our final month at the farmhouse. The new house was slow going, but we were going…the walls were our big task. I was packing, and little sewing got done. I was so busy…I never wrote a Christmas Letter that year and back then, I always did. Kalissa ended up writing it. You can read the Christmas letter from 2014 HERE. It was so interesting for me to read and look back and see where we were then.
I wrote a blog post about my long arm HERE. I still have a lot of people who go back and read that. If you’re thinking about a long arm, the post is still relevant.
I finished my Celtic Solstice quilt. You can read about it HERE.

Our Cinder Block quilt was published in Quiltmaker magazine. You can read about HERE.

In between house stuff I was working on my Spoolin’ Around quilt…

We had our Ring Around the Rosie quilt featured on Moda Bake Shop. You can find the free pattern HERE.

We made this little quilt with the leftovers. You can find the free pattern HERE.

In the kitchen I was making Grandma Kramer’s Tribble cookies for Christmas. They are date filled and so good. You can find the recipe HERE.

I was making Vegetable Beef soup and shared the recipe. You can find the recipe HERE.

I shared my Poppy Seed Tea Bread recipe. You can find it HERE. It is a family favorite.

We were busy making Easy Chocolate Carmel Popcorn. You can find the recipe HERE.

I told you all about the layout and plans for the new sewing room. You can read about that HERE.

Kalissa was busy helping Kramer put insulation in the ceiling of the garage. You can read about it HERE.

They put the eaves on the house!! You can read about it HERE.

The carpenters were finishing up some things.

The carpenters left the house for a while because they had done as much as they could with the sheetrock all up. You can read about that HERE.

Kramer was busy putting the final touches on the floorboards that were going to be placed in the new house.

We worked like crazy getting the flooring in. We had harvested and cleaned old flooring from a different farmhouse and used it in our house. It was hard work. Buck and I were a team, and man, we worked our butts off. You can read about it HERE.

The dry wall guy was working at the house.

He had promised us that he would be done by Christmas. He wasn’t. He wasn’t done by New Year’s either. I was getting pretty depressed about it all but trying to stay thankful that we were getting the house. I’m so impatient about things like that.
Kalissa spent a lot of time helping at the house. Both of us were sick of it!!

In the meantime, Kramer got the garage doors installed.

A blog reader asked why we moved from the country to the house I currently live in. I answered that question HERE.
Our daughter Kelli’s husband Jason, bought a farm with a house without Kelli seeing the inside of the house. She ended up moving there. Can you imagine your husband buying a house and you not seeing it first…There were no realtor pictures either. Luckily, it turned out the house was just fine. They still live there now. You can read more about that HERE.

It was a busy-busy time. I look back and marvel at how we did it all then. All I can say is that many hands came together to get us into that house. I can’t thank our kiddos enough for all the work they did….and that was December of 2014.

It’s fun to read the Flashback posts! I remember reading them the first time, and marveling at all the work you did on the house. Your link to the Tribbles recipe took me to the Christmas letter, but putting “tribbles” in your search box found the original post with the recipe.
Hope you continue to feel better and better, dear Jo.
Wow so much happened that month, well I’m betting every month while you were getting the house finished. I didn’t have the time to go to the different posts to see it all, but I plan to do that tomorrow. I enjoy these flashbacks since I wasn’t a follower at that time.l
Is there any way we can obtain your Cinder Block quilt pattern? I absolutely love it . . . it is indeed a fabulous quilt.
I’m so happy to hear about you recovering from surgery. You are truly one to be admired . . . your determination and positive thinking are so commendable. I’m so proud of you!!
well it is easy to see how Kalissa has been able to charge in on house DIY with Craig.–experienced.
Does it feel amazing that this is just 11 years ago ???? thanks for sharing
I had to chuckle about Jason and Kelli’s house buying experience – because my fiance bought a house, at an FHA auction without me knowing anything about it, he called me at college that night to tell me he’d bought a house! He was almost not my fiance anymore…but I guess it all worked out – we’ve been married for over 50 years. But oh – I remember how upset I was, and after I saw it I cried the whole time we were walking thru it. We did have a serious conversation about the dynamic of his purchasing something so significant without consultation – and I can tell you it never happened again lol! His defense was that he found out about the FHA auction a day before and walked thru the house an hour before the auction with is dad who was a carpenter and decided it had good bones and could be remodeled, so he bought it for $6000. And remember, these were the days before cell phones, I was 200 miles away, and we only had a telephone ‘date’ on Wednesday night and letters… But it all worked out – we remodeled it, got married, kept remodeling as we found 2 nickels to rub together to buy more materials, started our family there and lived there happily for 17 years!
