I’m doing a little series of posts that feature old blog posts. I have been going back and looking at them. It’s been fun. I started blogging in June 2009…WOW—over fifteen years. Today, I’m still playing catch-up.
I made my Jimmy John quilt. It’s been a very popular free pattern here on the blog. I made this for my brother and his wife’s wedding anniversary quilt. You can read about HERE. The link to the free pattern is there too.

We shared another free pattern for our quilt, Scrumptious Butter Churn. You can read about it and find the free pattern HERE.

We were on a roll of sharing a lot of free patterns. Here is another, our Chocolate Covered Cherries quilt. You can read more about it and find the free pattern HERE.

We had a quilt featured on Moda Bake Shop. This is our Garden Girl quilt. You can read about it HERE. You can find the free pattern HERE.

I had started TWO Easy Street Mystery quilts in 2013. I made the quilt bigger than the origina. I finished the last one in August of 2014. This one I did in cheddars, green, and brown. You can read more about it HERE.

I was at the longarm and finished this community quilt. It was a top someone donated. You can read more about it HERE.

We were working with the Fat Quarter shop and were participating in their Sew Along. The project made this baby quilt. You can read about it HERE.

I finished a UFO that a blog reader sent my way. You can read about it HERE.

I longarmed my cousin Donna’s quilt. She has since gone on and bought her own longarm. You can read about it HERE.

I was working on my Spoolin’ Around quilt.

I picked up a vintage sewing machine at the thrift store. Here my daughter Kelli is trying it out. I used it for a while and later gifted it to a neice who wanted to learn to sew.

I hosted and ironing board cover challenge on the blog in an effort to try to get myself to make a new ironing board cover. Several of you joined me. I think I need to do it again!!

My daughter Kelli and I were thinking about writing another quilt book. We later decided not to. I still have all of the designs in a binder.

The biggest thing for me in my quilting world was that Country Threads quilt shop was closing. I was so sad. I wrote about that HERE.
I listened to one of my favorite books Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain. I still recommend this book all of the time. It is still on my favorites list.

I shared how I make Sloppy Joe Potatoes. You can find that recipe HERE.

I tried a new recipe for zucchini bars. You can find the recipe HERE.

My daughter Kayla did a guest post and shared how she makes sweet corn in the Instant Pot. It’s the recipe I still use. You can find it HERE.

I must have been on zucchini overload. I shared my Chocolate Zucchini Cake Recipe. You can find it HERE.

I also shared my Blueberry Zucchini Bread recipe. SO GOOD. This is a family favorite. You can find the recipe HERE.

We celebrated our one year of home ownership, but were DEEP into house renovations.

We made a lot of progress on the house in August of 2014…we still had a lot left but we were hopeful all of our hard work would get us in the house sooner.
We had harvested floor boards from an old farmhouse.

We were trimming them and cleaning them. I learned to use a chop saw to trim and clean the boards. Thanks to the help of family and friends we accomplished the job.

We were deep into making so many decisions at the house. We were trying to figure out cabinets.

Rather than have the cabinet maker build the piece on the left of the refrigerator, we bought this antique cabinet. I still love this cabinet and don’t regret the decision at all. You can read about it HERE.

The new basement got dug after we cut the old part of the house off.

All of the old siding on the old part of the house got removed.

Before we knew it, the house was ready for siding.

They tool off the big gingerbread trim piece. I later cleaned and repainted it.

Kramer built an escape for the egressed basement window.

The cement people came and poured the front porch concrete.

…and gave us some front steps.

The garage got poured…

…and the new basement did too. WHEW. We were ready to start the new addition.

BUT then the builders had to leave.
Overall, they were great, didn’t leave often, and, most importantly, they told us when they weren’t going to be there. I know so many people who are dealing with remodels, have builders leave, and progress stops.
Check back again for the next Blast from the Past and see what happens next in the house remodel and see what else the Kramers are up to in September of 2014.

Hi, In 2014 I was babysitting my grand children fortunately I had only three. But my I stayed busy. My 1 year old my newborn granddaughter and my 7 year old grand son. It was mostly great. Plus quilting.
Oh my goodness, you have been a busy woman for a VERY long time. Making your house your home has been quite the journey.
And YOU? You are a fabulous healthier version of you. Great progress everywhere.
Happy Saturday!
When I saw that recipe for Sloppy Jo Potatoes, I knew I had to make a batch. It looks delicious. I make a lot of quilt tops for a local charity and I can use some of your listed patterns. Thanks for sharing.
It is always fun to see these “blast from the past” posts. You and Kramer were two very frugal and energetic people. You did so much work to make your house so beautiful.
I can only imagine how sad you were when Country Threads closed their doors. I still follow the blog and enjoy that read most mornings. Loved wandering down Memory Lane with you. So much great sharing. Many, many thanks! It’s mostly new to me since I only just recently found your blog.
I love your “Blast from the Past” posts! I usually see a quilt or two that I had hoped to make (time goes by so fast!) or a recipe I tried and need to make again. I also think back to where I was…August 2014…. less than 1 year after a major surgery and still about 3 months to my husbands death. Little do we know what the future holds. Praying all works out with the new possible job!
