I’m doing a little series of posts that feature old blog posts. I have been going back and looking at them. It’s been fun. I started blogging in June of 2009…WOW. Over ten years. I’m so glad I’ve kept the blog as a diary of sorts…today I’m telling you about projects I finished in April of 2011.
Kelli was home one Saturday and shared her latest quilt top with me. It was State Fair designed by Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie’s Quilt Company.
Gracie wasn’t the best model….this photo was about the best of the bunch showing off my quilt finish.
The blocks in this quilt are from Bonnie Hunter’s book Scraps & Shirttails: Reuse, Re-purpose, Recycle! The Art of “Quilting Green”
. I was busy making a blue and red version of the Hand Me Down quilt in the book when I got a baby shower invitation. I quickly cut out some green and blue men’s shirts and started sewing. This came together really quickly. There are 25 blocks and then a 4″ border.
The backing was leftovers from a project Kelli had left here and said I could use if I wanted….
Simple stars make a great baby quilt.
Labor Day Madness is the next quilt I was working on. It is from Pat Speth’s book, Nickel Quilts. This book has some of my favorite quilts in it. I’ve made several from the book. You can find the book HERE.
I was tackling UFO projects and this was UFO #4 at the time. I’m so glad this eventually got finished. It’s one of the main quilts that go on my bed.
I was busy making star blocks for my Hand Me Downs quilt from Bonnie Hunter’s Scraps & Shirttails: Reuse, Re-purpose, Recycle! The Art of “Quilting Green”.
I loved making them…This was for the quilt Cactus Patch.
I was tackling my flimsy pile. I grabbed… a top with a prepared back. It was my Cotton Candy Squares quilt from Judy Laquidara’s book Weekend Quilts. I really love the book. It has lots of quilts that are easy to make in a short period of time.
I did a bit of color modification to the pattern as mine is TOTALLY SCRAPPY!!
I started the quilt after I made my Crab Apples Quilt from Bonnie Hunter’s Adventures with Leaders & Enders: Make More Quilts in Less Time!. I had made too many nine patches and needed somewhere for them to go. This quilt was a perfect home for them. The other thing that I did to change the pattern was to put dark squares in the middle of each block.
The quilt put a HUGE dent in my 1.5″ scrap bucket. I love quilts that bloom from my scrap bucket. It just seems like the quilts were a freebee….
What a great quilt. Thanks for the pattern Judy!
This next project made me laugh. I was starting to collect bonus triangles for my Hawk’s Nest Quilt.
I finished the quilt in October of 2020 almost 10 years later. Here is my version. You can read all about it HERE.
The quilt is Hawk’s Nest by Bonnie Hunter. You can find it in her book Scraps and Shirttails book two. (Here is a link)
It’s funny that it took me that long to finish the quilt!! It was on my mind for a LONG time.
I was working on UFO projects at the time. This is a free pattern from Judy over at Patchwork Times called Connect the Dots. I managed to get it finished.
It was Karl’s graduation quilt.
It was a fun mystery. THANKS Judy!!
As I was scrolling through looking for quilt pictures to share with you, I found chicken pictures.
Oh, I miss my chickens. This was Molly. She was a sweet hen.
I’ve wanted to get chickens and have inquired about it in town but…the powers that be say no chickens. I think the reason they say no is that there is already a dog problem in town. That has gotten much better though.
So that’s what I was up to in April of 2011…chickens and quilts and getting ready for Karl’s graduation party.
I love the hawks nest quilt. Good things just take time. It’s a dense as in many small pieces in each block. Your quilts all turn out so special. Loved all of them.
All beautiful quilts!! It is fun for me to see what you were doing, as I’m sure it is fun for you to reminisce as you review these posts.
Wow, that Hawks Nest quilt really caught my eye. I may have to put that one one my list. I should already have the book somewhere. I also made that State Fair Quilt a lone time ago, but mine was not a Miss Rosie pattern. I can’t remember what is was called, but the block is the same.
All are beautiful. I’m glad you shared them.
