Behind the Scenes

I thought I’d give you a little sneak peak at what is happening behind the scenes around here.  Last week Kelli frantically sewed this quilt top.  Then Sunday I spent the day making a backing and quilting it.  Monday was the day to bind, sew the sleeve and label and prep for the mailbox.  Thank goodness we are machine binders and not hand binders or there are so many deadlines we’d never make.  This quilt was sent out Monday so it can get to where it’s going by Friday.

The quilt is fun and bright and features a non traditional “block”.  We used lots of lots polka dot fabric in the quilt from Moda’s new line Dottie.  You can bet I was doing the happy dance when I saw that there was left overs from the bundle for me to play with!!

What is not to love with polka dots.  We added other Moda fabrics that were left over from projects in our new book so the entire quilt is made with Moda fabric.  So we named the quilt Ode to Moda.  It’s name will likely be changed by the publisher.  But for us, it will always and forever be the “Ode to Moda” quilt.

Check out the label…This is destine to be featured in a calendar for 2016 that American Patchwork and Quilting is putting out.  Imagine our shock when we opened the email requesting this quilt.  We’re super excited about this!!

Quilt-2
First we were shocked that they wanted our quilt.  Second we were shocked that they would already be putting together a calendar for 2016.  Who knew that projects were started so far in advance??

We’ll let you know when the calendar will be out and available for purchase.  You can bet that all of our family will be getting a calendar for a gift in 2015!!

I sure wish I could show you the quilt.  Our daughter Kalissa claims it’s the best quilt yet.  It was inspired by a very poorly sewn quilt we saw while antiquing.  That quilt was all done in dark colors though.  This is also one of those quilts that I put together and Kelli said, “Exactly how am I suppose to sew that?”  After a few test “blocks” Kelli had it down pat.

You just never what is happening here behind the scenes..sometimes it’s such a whirlwind I sometimes wonder if I know what’s happening.

  1. Sure hope the fabric is readily available when the pattern comes out. There’s many of times I’ve fell in love with a quilt only to discover the fabric is nearly gone and almost Impossible to find. Love, love, love polka dots.
