One of mine and Kelli’s favorite things to do is lay on my bed and look at all the fabric in scrappy quilts.  This one, my Paducah Nine Patch, from the book Nickel Quilts by Pat Speth and Charlene Thode is one of our favorites to do that with.
Kelli will say, “hey, that’s the fabric you got when we went to Country Threads”…and I’ll say, “Isn’t that the background fabric from the quilt you made Jason”. Â We just have a blast doing it. Â It’s a way we bring back memories of time we spent together or of quilts we made in the past.
We even do that when we look at magazines and quilts books saying, “hey I have that fabric only in red”.
Well we are guessing that all of you like to do that too…I think most everyone who quilts and loves scrap quilts can say that very thing.
We decided to give you a chance to do that with us, only in just a little different way. Â We designed a quilt that is scheduled for a future publication. Â The quilt has to remain a secret for the time being..but trust, you’ll like it.
We’re wondering if you would like to send us a random 2 1/2″ strip of white printed fabric to be included in the quilt….or a couple 2 1/2″ squares. Â Here’s an example of things we think would work well.
We’re leaning towards white…not cream or tan…most of what we have shown is brighter white and more modern.
We’ll keep a list of everyone who sent a strip of fabric and then once the quilt is published, we’ll pick a name from the list and we’ll send that person a copy of the publication.
We’ll use at least two squares from each envelope that gets sent to us so when the publication comes out, you can play eye spy and see if you can find the fabric you sent to us.
If you want to be a part of our fun just send a 2 1/2″ strip of white based fabric to us. Â One strip is plenty…
You can send it to our address:

Isn’t this going to be fun?? Â We’ll be saying..”oh, that one came from Ila…and that one came from Nancy” Â all of you will be saying “look, my fabric pieces was published”.
What length do you need? What fun!
I’ll send you a strip gladly, Jo! I probably won’t make it out to the mail box until Saturday (we’re still snowed in here) but i’ve made a note to myself to do so. Looking forward to your new quilt. i love the Paducah nine patch quilt–it’s on my ‘someday’ list to make.

Hi Jo! Sounds like fun :) Does it have to be a whole strip or can it be squares or shorter strips.? squares could go in a regular envelope I think but the strip might not :)
It’s in the mail!!
What a fun idea. I received my Quiltmaker magazine today. Great pattern for the 1 1/2″ strips. That is a lot of bias on the edge once it is trimmed. Did you do anything special to keep it from stretching?
Hi Jo,
How long are you going to be collecting the strips? I won’t be home until the end of Feb. and would love to participate.
Oops, couldn’t decide on just one so two are winging their way to you ;-) One of them might have too much print on it but I LOVE it so in case you can’t use it, I sent a second one that should be good. Can’t wait to see your new project.
