Changing My Stitchy Ways

A few things have changed since Miss Georgia has been born.  Most good–lots of smiles, not vomitting, minimal headaches, staring at her…for hours if life would allow it–but some not as good–iffy sleep (but only on occasion), getting pumping figured out, having some hard talks–but honestly, overall it has been amazing.

Since Jason farms and works super long hours, things like having him be the parent in the house while I go get groceries or run errands isn’t going to be able to happen.  I know that I can ask for help and that I have a pretty awesome village that would love to step in, but I also want my kids to know that groceries need to get bought.  I want them to be able to do whatever the task is for the day and just be able to go with whatever the flow happens to be.

One thing I wanted to make sure I was still abel to do was stitch…lots.  And luckily, I’ve been able to get it figured out!

It seems that at night from about 8 to 10, she gets a bit more fussy than she is throughout the day.  And I hate even saying she gets fussy–Because she really just squeaks and fusses more than normal.  If I put her down and am not holding her she just gets fussy, but as soon as I pick her up, she’s fine.  I’ve started using this time to stitch.  I can easily just set her in my lap and stitch away.  She’s comfy–And I get some stitching time in!  Who could say no to that?

Here’s another set up that has worked really well for us.  She loves her swing, so I get her strapped in and swinging and I am able to stitch.  This way, I also don’t feel guilty that I’m not playing with her while she’s awake.  I can easily talk to her, sing her a song, and just see what she’s up to.

Overall, out little adjustments end up working out great!  She’s pretty much the best baby ever when it comes to sleep, eating, and temperment—And letting her momma get some stitching time in!

The Many Faces of Georgia Grace

I’ve been garage saling to get some clothes for Georgia.  One of the days, Kalissa watched Georgia for me and then mom was kind enough to pick her up from Kalissa and meet me in Ossian so we could go home when I was finished.

The next day, I put one of her new outfits and took her picture so that I could send it to them both and tell them thank you for hanging with her.  All of a sudden, I she started just hamming it up–Look at these!

Seriously though–

With all the stuff going on with Mom and Dad, it gets hard sometimes.  It’s little smiles and giggles like these that help to break up the hard times and make them a bit more bearable.  I’ve said it many times–I think Kalissa and I happened to have Gannon and Georgia for so much more than to just have kids.  Kids just seem to be pros at lightening the heavy moments and making us stop and enjoy the little things.  And as you can see, little smiles are some of the biggest and best things!

Bacon + Asparagus = LOVE!

If I ever had to choose only 10 foods to eat for the rest of my life, this would definitely be on the list!  It is SOOOOOOO good!  And the best part–It’s as easy as it is simple.

One of my favorite buys at our local Fareway is a box of bacon ends and pieces.  It’s all of the stuff that is the leftovers or pieces of bacon that for some reason weren’t packaged in the 1 pound packages to be bought at the grocery store.  This is literally a staple at my house.

To start, fry up some bacon.  I really like bacon and know that I might eat a little while it’s cooking, so I usually cut up more than I probably should.  It’s completely up to you how much you want to use!  If you don’t have ends and pieces, that sure doesn’t stop you from making this, just cut up part of a package.  Fry up the bacon until it’s pretty crispy–Unless you like not crispy bacon.  Just cook it a little less if that’s the case.

While that is cooking, cut up one bunch of asparagus.  Again, you can use as much as you want.  I don’t have asparagus at my house, so I just use a bunch that you can get at the store.  I usually cut mine into about one inch pieces after cutting off and throwing away the bottom inch.

Once your bacon is cooked, add the asparagus and cover.  Cook while covered on medium-ish heat until the asparagus is cooked through, but still tender.  I usually then sprinkle it with some fresh grated parmesean cheese and cover it back up.  Let it steam until the parmesean is melted.  I usually add some garlic salt and pepper while I’m cooking it as well.

Easter at the Hanken House

Yes, this post is a little late, but if you know me, you also know that I’m usually a little late….and sometimes more than a little.

Usually we have Kramer Easter on Palm Sunday.  This year with everything going on, we had scheduled a Meet the Baby get together with my mom’s side of the family the weekend after Easter and Gannon’s baptism the day after and decided that we would add an Easter celebration to the mix.

Per tradition, Georgia and I got up and went to Sunrise service at our church.  Isn’t her dress the cutest?  I was all worried about not having an Easter dress for her.  I ended up finding one at a garage sale, but it was pretty much a tanktop and diaper cover.  I had decided that I’d try and fine a sweater and tights which I did, but both were so big for her that she was literally drowning in them.  You can imagine how excited I was when our neighbor stopped over with a gift and I opened it up to find this outfit!  I absolutely love it!  It was a newborn size, so she also wore it to Good Friday service to get as many wears out of it before she outgrows it!  Thanks so much Kim and Mike!

Afterwards, we went home to finish up some food as we would be heading up the road to Jason’s parents for dinner.  Once the food was finished up and ready, we were both able to sneak a little nap in.

Up at Grandma and Grandpa Hanken’s we had a wonderful meal and got to do lots of visiting!

Here she is getting some cousin time in!  This is her oldest cousin Joshua.  He is so sweet with her.  After she was born, his mom Rachel brough him and his sister Addy and brother Landon to visit.  She said that when they left, he started crying because he missed her!

All in all, it was a nice day.  Getting together for a meal and to chat and catch up is always a welcome time!
