Ever since I heard the movie was coming out, I wanted to see Young Washington. Our family is full of history buffs, and I am one of them. I don’t know that I can tell you the dates that things happened anymore, but I still like learning more. Of course, I am not sure how accurate this is in regards to history, but I’m sure some elements are right.
Anyway…Rick and I went to see it on Friday. His wrist has been bothering him more, so getting him to go to a movie, I thought, might be helpful. We had plans to see The Odyssey with Karl in the upcoming week, so Young Washington it was.

Rick hadn’t been to a movie with reclining seats, so that was fun. At one point in the middle of the movie, I had to use the restroom. I couldn’t figure out the reclining buttons in the dark and ended up lying almost flat out. Rick had a good laugh over that. I figured it out.
I gave in and had buttered and extra salted popcorn…all Rick’s pick. It worked out okay, as the buckets have a domed lid. We flipped that over and poured the top of the popcorn into the lid, and he had that. I had the other popcorn. Most of the butter and salt went with his. HA!! It was a good compromise.

Here’s the trailer to the movie if you haven’t seen it yet.
We both very much liked the movie.
I was sure that Washington was a strong person. One has to be if you are leading troops. But I had no idea how many odds, like societal classes, the death of his father and brother, stacked against him. I’ve just known him as “the” George Washington and never thought he was not born into a higher class. If the portrayal of the movie is true, I would actually say that fight to overcome those circumstances is likely what made him the strong man history has told us that he is.
Rick enjoyed the movie. He commented that he thought it started a tad slow. I agree. We both thought that the movie needed to do that, though. There really wasn’t a faster way to tell that portion of the story. Overall, he liked it too.
We both agreed that we would go to a sequel if they ever made one. I said something to my kiddos that we were going, and several of them said they were interested in going to the movie as well. All of us have an interest in the time period, as our great (many times over) uncle, Samuel Huntington, signed the Declaration of Independence. We all suspect they would have known each other. It makes watching movies like Hamilton and now Young Washington even more interesting to us.
If you don’t catch it in the theatre, try to catch it once it’s released for streaming. It is worth your time.

Sounds like you had a fun time and the movie was good. I am not sure I would have been able to handle the popcorn – extra salt and butter, hmmm. lol
There will be a “next one!” Stay tuned…
Oh Jo, you gave me a good laugh on the reclining movie seats. Having not been to a movie theater in years, I probably would have done the same. Although I bet there have been many good laughs in movie theaters….all over the seats.
Glad you and Rick enjoyed the movie…I’ll wait until it’s made
for TV.
It is so cool that you are related to a signer! I admire what those men did, and at their own peril!
My son & I went to the movie & we both loved it! There were a number of things I didn’t know about Washington, so that made it even better. How special that it came out in the year our country reached 250 years. We have gone to several movies lately as hubby (his dad) doesn’t like movies, so he babysits the grand pup. Works for us!
