Ask Jo: This and That

I often get question and comments from blog readers via my email or just in the comment section.  Sometimes I answer them here on the blog as I feel other blog readers might be able to offer advice or that others might have the same question.  Today is one of those days.

After trying to use our strip calculator we got a question from Carolyn, “Is the width in the calculation with or without seam allowances my strips are 2.5 but do I use that or 2 allowing for 1/4′ seams same questions for length of strips.”

If you want to use 2 1/2″ strips enter  in 2.5″.  The calculator will allow for the seam allowance.  Same with the length.

From Linda, “Hi Jo and Kelli, Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your lecture and trunk show with the Dubuque guild. The workshop was great, also. Love the quilt we were making. Now I just have to cut about 1000 more 2 1/2″ squares to finish it! Thanks again.”

We had a fantastic time coming out and meeting all of you with the Cable Car Quilters.  We are so happy that our program gave you all a few giggles.  We were glad we got the opportunity to spend the next day working with in our workshop.  Keep working on your quilt and maybe you’ll have it done before our book comes out in February!

I got an email from Sara telling me about her thrifting adventures and her find of a bag of triangles.

Sara writes, “I am an avid thrift store shopper and I love seeing the bargains you find.  The whole point of this email is my “treasure” I found yesterday, a huge bag of triangles! batiks, florals, novelties, solids……a little of everything. The problem is what to do with them. I was hoping you might have a pattern that you’ve designed that I could make with these. The only patterns I can think of are stars and pinwheels and I’ve made lots of those and was hoping you may have something for me. ”

Well blog readers, it’s your turn.  Does anyone have advice for Sara??  I love the broken dishes block and have been wanting to make such a quilt but haven’t gotten around to it.

Making these up scrappy would make a fun quilt.  I am sure all of you have suggestions as well.  Make sure to leave a comment and help Sara out.

So many of you are working on finishing a Bonnie Hunter UFO project before the new mystery comes out.  If you missed that post, it’s here.  I just want to apologize about the linky…for some reason I can’t get it to show up on the main page like they usually do.  I’ve tried…any advice?  I am so excited that so many are joining up.   I can’t wait to see your progress.  Speaking of making progress, I am off to attempt to sew a few more blocks.
