Ask Jo: The Most Asked Question in the History of the Blog

Hello, and welcome to another edition of “Ask Jo”.  I get many comments and questions from all sorts of places, the comment section here, Youtube, email, and from our Facebook group.  Sometimes I think others of you might want to know the answers as well so I answer them here on the blog.

Today I’m only tackling one question but it’s an important question as I am confident that this is likely the most asked question followed closely by the question, “Do I ever sleep?”. Today’s question was asked LOTS this week.  The question gets asked over and over.  It’s a question that I was likely asked about 8 times this week.  People all asked essentially the same question.

The question is some form of what Ann commented, “Jo, I have no idea why, but I didn’t get an email with your post today. I really love both quilts.”

Some of you are wondering what the question even means.  Most of you do not read the blog through email…but there is a percentage of people who do.  They use a program called Blog Lovin.  It allows users to subscribe to blogs.  The program collects the blogs that a person has subscribed to and puts them all in one email that the subscriber receives daily.

I have absolutely no control what-so-ever over that program.  It is completely and entirely separate from my blog.

So…if my blog doesn’t show up I can’t do a single thing about it.  I have no contact with Blog Lovin.  I don’t use the program personally.  I have no personal affiliation with them other than people ask to be able to subscribe so had Kayla put a subscription button on the blog.  If the program doesn’t work, that is between the subscriber and Blog Lovin.

From past experience, I’ve been told…
that Blog Lovin’ often upgrades or does maintenance updates on with their program.  When that happens, some people who subscribe lose a blog they were subscribed to.  I’ve been told that if subscribers do not find my blog in your email, you would need to unsubscribe to my blog and then resubscribe.  That typically does the trick.

I think we all know by now that often the best way to fix anything computer-wise or electronic-wise, is to hit the restart button and by unsubscribing and resubscribing, you are essentially doing that.

When the questions or comments come in about “where I am” and why my blog posts aren’t coming through their email, they come in all sorts of formats.  Some say, “I was worried about you”…some blame me for the email not being there…some just state the case.

I’m here to tell you this.

I write two blog posts every day.  TWO.  I have been doing that for some time.  I checked the archives:

I started the blog in 2009.  At the start, I wrote a few posts a week.  By 2010 I was writing one post EVERY day.  By 2012 I was writing two posts daily.  I think I was taking Sunday nights off, but for the most part, two posts daily.

I have been writing two posts daily since 2012.  Yes, there has been an occasion that there was a scheduling error.  I have hit the PM button to schedule when I meant to hit the AM time slot to schedule.  There has been a VERY rare occasion that I’ve missed a post.  Even when Kramer died, everyone was notified and I still wrote.

I checked the archives and for the first week of June 2019, I missed June 3rd…the day after Kramer died.  The first two weeks of June had at least one blog post every day and sometimes two.

I think it’s pretty safe to say that I’m consistent.  Even when my husband passed away, I still wrote.  I was still here.  I did not leave you in the lurch.  I’ll be honest, on the day he died, I wasn’t up for writing the post that told you about his death…but Kalissa stepped in.  She knew it was important for all of you to know and she wrote the post here on the blog.

The kids would always joke that when we lived on the farm during their growing up years, they always knew what time it was in the morning by the sound of the skid loader or tractor sounds out their window.  Kramer, like me, was very consistent…very dependable.  He was up and doing chores every single day like clockwork.

I am the same.  I’m here every single day…like clockwork.

If you are a long-time reader and read in 2019, you’ll also remember that Kramer was in the hospital a lot.  I stayed with him all of the time.  I took my laptop.  I wrote posts.  I didn’t miss blog posts then either.

If in the future, something would happen to me or someone in our family that prevented me from getting to the computer.  I would put an update on the Facebook page which I can easily do from my phone.  If I couldn’t get to the computer, one of the girls, I have three and all know how to access my blog, would step in and write an update post.

Kramer’s are dependable.  The kids know how important it is for me to keep the blog updated.  The girls would make sure this happened.

So…all of this to tell you if the blog does not come up in your Blog Lovin program email, it is not me.  It is all the fault of Blog Lovin.  Unsubscribe and then resubscribe.  That should do the trick.  If it doesn’t, contact Blog Lovin… not me.  I can’t fix their problem.

Please if ever in doubt, go to the blog directly at www.joscountryjunction.com.  This is how most people access the blog.  This is how you find the most up-to-date posts.

P.S.  I know Mary at Country Threads Chicken Scratch gets the same comments regularly.  The same unsubscribe and resubscribe works there too!

Please never think that I’m not here…I am.

  1. I have a stranger problem-some of the blogs I subscribe to go directly to my trash folder (Jo’s DOES NOT!). I have tried unsubscribing and resubscribing and the emails to finish the process go to my trash. I’ve asked others about it and no one has ever heard of this happening and have no clue how to fix it. Any thoughts?

    1. It sounds like an issues with your email junk filter. One thing I would check is if the blogs that keep going to trash are “secure”. Look at the blog address when you visit and see if the padlock is closed…that shows it’s secure. My guess is that your email filter thinks it’s junk email or unsafe. I don’t know how to do this but you might need to add the addresses of the blog to your email so it knows you want those.

  2. You are more than faithful and you make such an effort to keep us up to date on whatever is going on with you! I really appreciate being able to read your first post of the day with my coffee and then another later in the evening. I don’t know how you do it! The only problem is if for some reason you can’t post some morning then I begin to wonder what could be wrong! I’m as bad as worrying about where the kids were if they were late! Lol! Thank you for working so hard at the blog. It’s like a visit with a friend. That’s been especially important this past year.

  3. I have been amazed that you can write 2 posts every day – and am very appreciative! You always have something worthwhile!

  4. It’s 10pm and here I am checking joscountryjunction for the second blog post of the day!! Thanks, Jo, we all really enjoy reading about your life and family!!

  5. I so enjoy yourblogs interesting, fun, and so helpful. Keeping up with you is one of my high points of the day.

  6. I think the problem for me is Blog Lovin. It used to work for me, but now it’s trash. I get horrible stuff through them. I skip over 25+ garbage entries to find maybe 2-3 quilting entries I actually want. I’ve spent a lot of time on their site trying to work it out (but I’ve not unsubscribed to the whole thing). I used to think their site was so valuable! Now it’s a nuisance for me.
Jo, thank you so very much for what you do! I love to read what you write. You are a bright spot to my days! Thank you! I’m dumping them and coming to you. I hope I can find the blogs I used to use that have now disappeared from blog lovin.

  7. Bloglovin stopped working for me a few years ago. I did everything I could but it just wouldn’t work. I now have ways to check in to my few blogs, but not many, as it’s too difficult. I have no clue what happened but it just stopped working one day. I rarely get both of your blogs in one day but I can usually backtrack to read a few I’ve missed.

  8. Jo, this exact scenario happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I get a daily email from Bloglovin’ as you described. A few days went by when it dawned on me that I hadn’t seen your blog on there recently. I went back and checked my deleted emails to see when you had last shown up. It’s so weird but I got suddenly concerned that something happened to you! I went directly to your blog and was relieved to see your posts. Somehow, I had gotten unsubscribed through Bloglovin’, so I subscribed again and all is well!

  9. I bookmarked my favorite blogs under “quilts” on my email program. It’s very easy to access my favorite ones because they are at the top. Some bloggers are not as consistent about writing as you are and they’re further down the list. I have looked at your blog so many times that if I put in “Jos” into the top line you automatically come up. Reading this I realized you have never taken a vacation. You’ve never said I’m taking a week off. I suspect even when you traveled for a weekend with your husband that we had posts to read because you prepared them in advance. I look forward to reading what you’re up to twice a day. Thank you for your time and commitment to your blog.

  10. I cannot believe people are actually complaining about not getting a blog! I assume they are not paying you to get two blogs a day, come rain or shine, come he’ll or high water. They should be grateful that you are so kind and write these blogs. If there is a day when you don’t feel like writing, you should be able to not write without hearing about it. Thank you for writing the blogs and everything else you do. ❤️

  11. I was first introduced to your blog through Blog Lovin’ and then one day Blog Lovin’ disappeared from my emails. Fortunately, I had bookmarked a couple of your posts and then subscribed through your website. I don’t miss all the other stuff that Blog Lovin’ sent me. Thanks for writing your blog—I look forward to it like a visit with a friend.
