Ask Jo: My Sewing Lamp

Every so often, questions and comments come from readers, and I think others would like to hear my response.  That’s when I feature them on the blog.  This is one of those days. The questions today come from the comment section.

This is going to be a fast blog post….the bus is due any minute and I don’t want to be on the computer when the grandkids are here.

I keep getting asked about my sewing lamp.

I LOVE the lamp. It’s perfect. It’s adjustable. I have one at each machine. I’ve had them for several years.

When I bought them, I about choked. They were expensive…just under $200 each!!! That is a lot. But…I still have them and still love them. I am sure they are over 10 years old.

The problem…I bought them from Lou Ann when her quilts shop was open in Oelwein. Lou Ann has since sold the store…and the lamps don’t have ANY stamp or brand on them. I have looked and looked.

Finally, today, after getting yet another question about my lamp, I messaged Lou Ann and asked her about the lamps. They are Slimline. They come as clamp or floor lamp.

HERE is an Amazon link for them.

They are still very expensive. As I said, I’ve had mine for over 10 years…it still works perfectly. I still love it. It adjusts so easily.

That, friends, is my lamp…

Sorry for the quick post…If you have any other questions, leave them in the comments. I enjoy answering them.

  1. Sometimes it is worth it to spend a little extra and it seems like it was with these lamps – ten years is a good length of time for them to work and probably continue for many more years. I plan to check them out.

  2. I have had my slimline clamp on lamp for almost 10 years and it has made such a difference for me to be able to sew in low light!

  3. I’ve had mine for 6 years and love, love, love it. I purchased the table base so I can move it when needed.

  4. Got a floor model from Lou Ann years ago as well. They are awesome and no more expensive today. Just have one lamp and been happy with it for many years!!

  5. My question is:
How do you store your seasonal creations? Plastic bags in plastic totes? Bugs attacked a WIP that was in an unsealed bag.

    1. I have them in totes by season. I keep the cross stitch things towards the top. The totes are in a heated attached garage. I’ve never had bug trouble.

  6. Jo does your lamp adjust to different kinds of light (daylight, fluorescent, LED?). If not, can you tell what kind of light it is? Thanks.

    1. ULTRA-BRIGHT 6,000K DAYLIGHT LEDs: Experience true color accuracy with 95+ CRI and 3,200 Lux at 30cm (12”), ideal for detailed tasks and intricate work.

  7. I have two of those Slimline lights. Mine clamp onto the sewing table. The clamp-on versions are much less expensive than the floor models on Amazon. I love these lights. Mine has 4 steps of brightness in case you don’t want it full-strength.
