Ask Jo: Lots of Miscellaneious

Every so often questions and comments come from readers that I think others would like to hear my response to.  That’s when I feature them on the blog.  This is one of those days. Today’s questions are a mixed bag of lots of things…here goes.

The first question came from Cindy. She asked:
What’s the Diamond quilt hanging on the wall ne and do you have the pattern?

Cindy is referring to this diamond quilt. I showed it to you when I did a shop tour of Quilter’s Window in New Hampton, Iowa. You can read the blog post HERE.

I do have the pattern and you can easily have it too. I asked about it while I was in the store. It’s actually a freebie pattern from Shabby Fabrics. You will need THIS RULER. I couldn’t find the free printable but I’m sure it’s just my lack of knowing where to look. They gave us this handout in the store.

There is a Youtube video that I embedded below that you can watch to see how to make it.

It’s a great scrap busting quilt. I would really love to make one.

You might remember me doing a book review of this book,  County Seat Quilts by Julie Hendrickson and Vickie Gerike. It is one of the books from Martingale Publishing that was on a DEEP discount. You can find my review of the book HERE.

Blog reader Daniela gave me a heads-up that there is a correction on page 76. I know several of you have bought the book and would like the corrections. I ended up contacting Daniela and she gave me a link to the corrections. I looked and couldn’t find them. HERE is a link to them. You can download it. If you don’t know how to do that, I’m also putting a picture here of the corrections and you can always take a picture. The corrections are for page 76.

Ana shared THIS RECIPE for Blueberry Muffins. I plan to give them a try. She said they were so good she had plans to make them two days in a row!! That has to be a good recipe.

Rebecca asked:
I enjoyed your article. Thank you for listing the pattern for the top quilt on the ladder. Would you share the pattern for the quilt on the bottom rung? It looks beautiful!

Rebecca is referring to this ladder in my house. I love this little ladder. I paid $4 for it at the thrift store. It is perfect for this little spot in my entry.

I have two litlte quilts hanging here. I’ve been wanting to make a third quilt.

I previously showed you this quilt that is the top quilt. It is from Country Threads. The name of the quilt is Opposition. You can find it in the book Civil War Remembered. It’s HERE on Amazon.

The other quilts it this one…it is from Country Threads too. This one is called Troops in Formation. It is in the book The Blue and the Gray. You can find that book HERE on Amazon.

Just a heads up. The Country Threads books were published by Martingale Publishing. That is the company that closed. Your chances to get these books are running out. The two I mentioned aren’t deeply discounted but other of theirs are. At the time of my writing this, these two were both listed at under $10 each.

It’s just so sad.

You can find these books and other of theirs HERE on Amazon.

I think that covered the questions for this segment of Ask Jo. If you have questions, the quickest way to reach me it the comment section. THANKS SO MUCH!!

  1. I read through the whole page in the book comparing to the correction page you gave and couldn’t find one thing that was different. If anyone knows what the error is, a heads up would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  2. The Shabby Fabrics pattern was probably a “free to quilt shops” pattern. If yu have a 60 degree template ot ruler you don’t need the pattern, Just cut and sew.

I have one and made it, without any pattern it was easy to do. Just had trouble sewing the rows together due to my mistakes in keeping my seams even once I figured that out it was just fun seeing the colors come together.

  3. Thank you for sharing the questions and your answers. I like your little ladder too! You find such wonderful bargains at your thrift stores. I would too if I shopped lol. I used to volunteer at one and so many temptations.

  4. the diamond quilt by Shabby Fabric was a free in 2017 is now a 12 dollar pattern. At least it appears to be. Search “diamond quilt” on their site.

  5. Thanks for the information on your Country Threads quilts. They’re beautiful. And, you always make your thrift store finds look fabulous.

  6. I took a quick peek at all Mary’s and Connie’s books. Wow, they were productive. I can’t even think of buying another quilt book though, I have so many quilts I’d like to make and not enough time to make them. I’ve never seen one at a thrift store. They must never get donated lol.

  7. I am in love with the “On The Bright Side” king sized quilt featured in American Patchwork Quilting Feb 2018 edition. Is there a way to make this queen sized instead?
    Thanks,

    Cindy

    1. Just take off a few blocks …or make half blocks. It’s all doable. They wrote the pattern and any questions about it would need to be directed to them.

  8. Hi. I love reading your blog but over the past few weeks many of the entries show up like this below no matter how I try to connect … through Feedly or directly from your website. Help please as I hate to miss a post.

    1. Shoot. That’s the first complaint I’ve heard in almost a week. Hmm. I’ll see if anymore come in as then I’ll know it’s on my end of things.
